Admission Criteria for NITs, CFTIs Gets Major Relaxation from HRD: Read Details Here

In a major breakthrough in regards to admission criteria in National Institute of Technology (NIT) and Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI), HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted that the JEE Main 2020 qualified students will just need a passing certificate in the class 12 board exams, irrespective of the marks they secure. This decision has been taken considering the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.

In his official tweet, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank wrote, “JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class 12 examination irrespective of the marks obtained.”

It is to be noted that earlier, along with clearing the JEE Main for admission to NITs and CFITs, the admission norms also required a candidate to have a minimum of 75 per cent or figure in the top 20 percentile of class 12 board exam results.

For SC/ST candidates it was mandatory to score either minimum 65 per cent or fulfill the top 20 percentile requirement.

Previously, the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) had also decided to relax the admission criteria for the year 2020 considering the partial cancellation of class 12 exams by various boards.

Reports suggest that the Joint Admission Board (JAB) is also considering the probability of conducting JEE (Advanced) in centres abroad given the restrictions imposed due to the COVID19 outbreak.

For the uninitiated, IITs have been conducting entrance exams for the overseas students at Dubai, Dhaka, Kathmandu and Singapore. Also in this year, IITs also decided to add a centre in the US.
