ALLEN Student to represent India in International Earth Science Olympiad

The students of ALLEN Career Institute continue to prove their excellence in the National & International Olympiads year after year. Amarjit Vikas Pande, the student of ALLEN Career Institute makes ALLEN proud by being selected to represent India internationally. Amarjit, who is a classroom program student at ALLEN from the past 1 year, has been selected in the team of 4 students to compete in the 3rd and the final round of International Earth Science Olympiad this year.

The International Earth Science Olympiad – IESO, was founded as one of the major activities of the International Geoscience Education Organization– IGEO. IGEO is affiliated to and sponsored by International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). It is conducted in 3 rounds where 2 rounds are conducted in India and the 3rd or the final round is conducted abroad.

In India, The 1st two rounds of Earth Science Olympiad are conducted by the Geological Society of India. Students of class 9th, 10th and 11th are eligible to compete in it. This year, in the first round (written exam), 21 students were selected from all over India, who were then invited to participate in the Orientation Camp. After competing with each other in this 2nd round, 4 students were finally selected to represent India in the 10th International earth Science 2016.

The 3rd and final round of IESO will be conducted in Mie, Japan from 20th to 27th August 2016.

Every year, the students winning the respective national competitions are invited to participate in this significant event. All the main areas of earth sciences, including geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, astronomy, and environmental sciences, are considered as selecting topics for the competition.
The competition for each participant consists of theoretical and practical examinations as well as field work test. Besides that, an International Team Field Investigation (ITFI) is arranged. Each team consists of some students from different countries. Participants are required to work together during experimental and/or field tasks and are graded together as a group.
