In the wake of COVID-19 and the lockdown imposed by the government, board exams of Class X and XII were also put on hold. CBSE had earlier decided to conduct the impending papers from July 1 to July 15. However, given the rising number of cases, various state governments had raised the safety concerns put forward by parents and students alike. Considering the requests and the changed circumstances, the exams have now been cancelled as per the Supreme Court decision.
Moreover, CBSE has even prepared an assessment scheme in regards to the options Class 12 students will have between internal assessment marks and appearing for the exam on a later date, when the conditions stand favorable.
CBSE has released an official notification for the same, addressing all the concerns related to assessment format and result declaration on July 15.
HRD Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank welcomed this decision and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minsiter Amit Shah for accepting the proposal of not conducting CBSE exams of Class XII from July 1.
He even added that students will be given the option of deciding if they want their results to be based on the methodology of assessment as decided by CBSE or if they would prefer writing the exams again.
The ministry has stated that for now the health of students, parents, and teachers stands to be the prime concern.
The details of assessment and optional examinations have been carefully explained in the official notification as issued by CBSE. Meanwhile, students and parents can browse through this notification and understand how the assessment scheme will work.
