CBSE likely to replace Term-1 & Term-2 board exam pattern with single exam pattern
There is much ado about the board exam pattern for class 10 and class 12 board examinations for the 2022-23 academic year. Students, schools, and other board examination stakeholders are in a fix on whether single exam pattern board examinations will resume from next year or the current two-tier board examination pattern will continue.
Finally, there is some clarity about the examination pattern from the media reports indicating that a single exam pattern is likely to replace the current two-tier examination pattern.
Several media reports are now indicating and claiming that the CBSE is most likely to switch to its pre-covid-19 exam pattern of conducting a single exam for class 10 and class 12 board examinations instead of the current system of bifurcating it into 2 examinations named Term-1 and Term-2 examinations.
The two-tier CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 were introduced for the first time in the year 2021-22 in view of dealing with the unprecedented situation of Covid-19 pandemic as schools remained closed for a long period due to the pandemic crisis.
The Term-1 class 10 and 12 were held in November and December last year (2021) while the Term-2 is scheduled to be held from 26 April this year.
Apparently decline in the Covid-19 pandemic situation is believed to be the major reason behind CBSE’s possible move of returning to single exam pattern. The class 10 and 12 board examinations were canceled in the year 2020-21 due to the Covid-19 crisis so CBSE decided to bifurcate the class 10 and 12 board examinations last year (2021) into Term-1 and Term-2 examinations.
Now when the Covid-19 situation has improved, CBSE has decided to return to its pre-Covid single exam pattern.
As per the news reports, schools wanted to resume the single examination system, after which CBSE is thinking of reviving the pre-Covid-19 single examination pattern. In their representations to the CBSE, schools asserted that conducting the board examination for classes 10 and 12 in two sets would affect the school activities as they had to stop all the other work to conduct the two sets of board exams.
While the Term-1 examinations had multiple choice questions, the Term-2 Examinations will have lengthy or subjective type questions.
