CBSE may declare NEET 2017 Results : Allows Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday, after hearing the urgent plea by Central Board of Secondary Education, allowed it to release the results of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test 2017.

The NEET 2017 results were put on hold by the Madras High Court earlier this year. The Madras High Court had on May 24 stayed the publication of the NEET results as a petitioner filed a plea saying the vernacular question papers for NEET 2017 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses were easier than the papers in English. In its counter affidavit, the CBSE rejected the contention that question papers in vernacular languages such as Gujarati were easier compared to English.

The NEET examination for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses was held on May 7. Almost 12 lakh students across India had appeared for the NEET in various languages, including English, Hindi and others.

The date of the declaration of results is however still to be declared by the CBSE. The Supreme Court also directed all High Courts not to entertain petitions on NEET 2017. With the SC order the stay on the declaration of results by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has also been lifted. The petition before the Gujarat High Court too will not be heard as a result of the SC verdict. Both the cases on before the two High Courts have also been stayed by the SC.

The CBSE had made a mention before the SC to hear the matter on an urgent basis. It had said that the fate of lakhs of students depended on the results. There has already been a considerable delay in the declaration of the results owing to the petitions pending before the Madras and Gujarat .
