The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the new exam pattern for the upcoming academic session 2021-22. A notification in this regard is released on the official website. The new exam paper pattern is set according to the National Education Policy 2020. CBSE has decided to change the classes 9th to 12th exam pattern for the 2021 – 2022 academic session. They have decided to emphasize competency-based education (CBE). While the overall marks and duration of examination shall remain the same, a more significant number of competency-based questions or questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life/ unfamiliar situations will be part of the question paper.
CBSE New Paper Pattern
For class 9-10, a minimum of 30 percent will be competency-based questions; objective questions will be 20 percent, and the remaining 50 percent short answer/ long answer type questions. As per the current scheme, class 10 question papers have 20 percent objective-type questions, 20 percent case-based/source-based integrated questions and 60 percent short answer/ long answer-type questions.
As per the revised scheme, for classes 11 and 12, there will be 20 percent competency-based questions and 20 percent objective questions as compared to 20 percent objective-type questions. Competency-based questions can be in the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or any other type. Presently, 70 percent of questions are short answer/ long answer type, but now it will be reduced to 60 percent.

The sample papers, according to the new pattern, will be released soon by CBSE. Schools are instructed to teach on the same pattern. This will enable the students to get information about the new pattern with which they will prepare better.
