Next Session, CBSE Will Replace 10+2 with 5+3+3+4 System

The Preschool Classes will be Included in the Formal Schooling

The days of the current 10+2 system will be over soon as CBSE plans to replace it with the 5+3+3+4 system next year. The change in the system has been envisaged in the National Education Policy (NEP).

CBSE to Write to all Affiliated Schools for the Adoption of the New Education System

CBSE has planned to Replace 10+2 with a new 5+3+3+4 system in the Next Academic Session. The CBSE will soon issue directions to its affiliated schools for the transition from the 10+2 system to the 5+3+3+4 system. The new system is part of the National Education Policy, which was approved by the union cabinet in 2020.

New System will Include Nursery Plus Kindergarten in Formal Schooling

One of the main features of the new 5+3+3+4 system is the inclusion of preschool or play school classes in the formal schooling system, whereby students of 3 to 6 years of age will be part. Presently, students are admitted to preschool and later join formal schooling for completion of Kindergarten classes and class 1 to 12 formal school education. Under NEP, the class from nursery to class 12 has been divided into 4 stages. The first five classes in the foundation stage will include nursery, lower KG, Higher KG, and classes 1 and 2. After the inclusion of these five classes, classes 3 to 5 will be part of the preparatory second stage, classes 6 to 8 will be part of the middle stage, and classes 9 to 12 will be part of the secondary stage. The idea behind adopting the 5+3+3+4 system is to achieve uniformity, inclusiveness, and academic, and occupational education. The new system will also strengthen the student’s foundation in the formal schooling system.

Board Examinations are to be Conducted Twice a Year

The class 10 and 12 examinations would continue like the current system but there will be a change. Once the new system comes into effect, the board examinations will be conducted twice, which will include one main examination and another improvement examination for improvement of the marks.
