Centre Mulls Plan for Setting up IITs Abroad

It is Pleasant News for Overseas Students as There are Plans for Setting up Offshore Campuses of IIT in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Egypt, and Tanzania.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) are famous across the globe for its quality technical education and now plans are being mooted to establish offshore campuses of IITs. IIT Delhi to mentor overseas IIT campus in Abu Dhabi

The Union Minister of State for Education, Subhash Sarkar in a reply to a question in Lok Sabha asserted that there are plans to set up an IIT campus in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. The IIT Delhi will mentor the IIT Abu Dhabi campus for which a team of experts and officials from IIT Delhi has visited Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Ministry of Education and Knowledge will be collaborated for setting up IIT in Abu Dhabi

Reportedly, apart from Abu Dhabi, there are also plans to establish IITs in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tanzania, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The setting up of the IITs overseas will be accorded approval under National Education Policy.

Student Exchange Program

After the institution of the IITs abroad, a student exchange program will be carried out for the enrichment of students of mentor IITs and overseas IITs. Also, the faculty of the mentor IITs may visit the overseas IITs for teaching students there.

Several Courses of Mentor IITs to be Taught in IIT Overseas

Not only the IITs will be set up overseas but also the courses of the mentor IITs will be taught in the IIT overseas. B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. Courses will be run at the overseas IIT in subjects like Computer science and Information and Technology, Data Science, artificial intelligence, Robotics, Electronics, and Machine Learning.
