Country’s 3 IITs & 12 NITs Remove Branch Change Option

Seats Increased in IITs Of Mandi, Indore, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Patna, Gandhinagar

After the JEE Advanced 2023 result, the country’s prestigious engineering entrance exam, the counselling process for admission in IITs & NITs is in full swing. Lakhs of students are engaged in analysing their JEE-Main and Advanced ranks to choose a college option. Since this year 813 branches of 119 colleges are to be filled during JoSAA counselling 2023. The last date for choice filling is June 28.

Branch Change Option Removed in Many IITs-NITs

This year many IIT-NITs have removed the option of branch upgradation based on the first-year performance of the students.

These IITs include top IIT Mumbai, IIT Hyderabad besides IIT Jammu. Along with the IITs, there are 12 NITs that have stopped branch upgradation options this year. These NITs include Delhi, Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Jaipur, Rourkela, Calicut, Kurukshetra, Jamshedpur, Surat, Pondicherry, and Nagaland.

Every year a large number of students prefer the core branches of the top IITs-NITs, as well as their lower branches, over the core branches of the lower priority IIT-NITs.

By taking admission in lower branches of top IITs-NITs, branch can be upgraded on the basis of first-year performance.

But now, due to closure of branch upgrade option in top three IITs and 12 NITs, students will be able to keep only the branch of their choice in priority list in these colleges.

How Many Seats Increased in Which IIT

Seats have been increased in many IITs of the country. This year, maximum 184 seats have been increased in IIT Mandi followed by 151 in IIT Patna, 120 in IIT Indore, 90 in Hyderabad, 82 in Gandhi Nagar, 40-40 in Bhilai, and Jammu, 35 in Ropar, 20-20 in Palakkad and Jodhpur and 1 seat in IIT Bhubaneswar. Thus, a total of 783 seats have increased in such IITs in the country.
