Kerala government has on Tuesday declared National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) as a compulsory entrance examination for admissions to the private medical colleges across the state.
NEET rankings will now determine admissions for MBBS and BDS courses, however, the government entrance test would be the benchmark for other medical and para-medical courses.
Citing the Supreme Court’s ruling of making NEET mandatory for admissions to all medical colleges, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed that an ordinance has been issued relating to the regulation of the private colleges of the state.
The admissions to government and private medical colleges in Kerala are now expected to become entirely merit-based depending on the NEET rankings.
Apart from modulating the admissions and fees structure of the private medical colleges of the state, the Kerala Medical Education aims at safeguarding reservations to the backward and the SC/ST communities.
