The JEE-Advanced examination will be conducted by IIT Delhi on 17 May this year for admission to 12463 seats of 23 IITs in the country. The examination will be conducted in two sessions between 9 to 12 in the morning and 2.30 to 5.30 in the afternoon.

Answers to all the FAQs related to the exam (Frequently Asked Questions have been released. Top 245000 students selected based on the JEE Main results to be released on 30 April will be declared eligible for JEE-Advanced exam. The result of the JEE-Advanced exam will be declared on 8 June.

174432 students applied for the JEE-Advanced exam last year, out of which 161319 students appeared in the exam. According to the FAQ’s, during online registration of JEE-Advanced, students of OBC and EWS category are required to submit their respective category documents after 1 April. If the certificate of the category is not available, the student should opt for general category by giving the declaration. Students eligible for Physical Disability category will be given one hour extra in both the papers of JEE-Advanced.

Eligibility for Foreign Candidates

Candidates who are NOT citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) and have studied (are studying) abroad at 10+2 level or equivalent at the time of registering for JEE(Advanced) 2020, are treated as foreign nationals. Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total number of seats in every course.
Foreign nationals are outside the ambit of reservation of seats under the GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD (Persons with Disability) categories as mandated by Govt. of India.
These candidates are not required to write JEE(Main) 2020 and may register for JEE(Advanced) 2020 directly subject to fulfilment of the eligibility criteria.

Tie-breaking rule

If two candidates have the same JEE (Advanced) 2020 aggregate marks, then then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:

Step 1: Candidates having higher positive marks will be awarded a higher rank. If the tie-breaking criterion at Step 1 fails to break the tie, then the following criterion at Step 2 will be followed.

Step 2: Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

Students who withdrew seats in JoSAA 2019 Counseling will also get a chance

During the last year of JoSAA counselling, students who paid seat acceptance fee and did not report the center, also the students who later withdrew before the last round of seat allotment are eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2020. Along with this, the students who are studying in NIT will also be eligible for JEE-Advanced 2020 exam.

Relief for students applying for improvement

If a candidate has passed her/his Class XII (or equivalent) in 2019 and wishes to improve his/her aggregate marks to meet the “aggregate marks of 75% (or 65% for SC, ST and PwD) criterion”, she/he can reappear in any number of subjects she/he wishes for improvement. The percentage marks in this situation will be calculated by considering the marks obtained in 2019 or 2020, whichever is higher, in the respective subjects, in her/his two attempts in 2019 and 2020.
