Ramesh Pokhriyal, Minister of Education, announced that JEE Advanced will be held on 3rd July 2021. The announcement was made through a live interaction on 7th January 2021. The board exam criterion to have 75% marks has also been relaxed. The Minister made these announcements through his official social media handles, including Twitter and FB.
The IIT entrance exam – JEE Advanced has been delayed due to the JEE Main exams’ postponement this year. As it was in the year 2020, this year too, there has been a relaxation in the exam board exam criterion.
In general, aspirants have to secure at least 75 percent marks in their class 12th board exam along with clearing JEE Main to become eligible for JEE Advanced. But this year, this standard criterion has been relaxed just like the last year. However, students will have to pass their board exams to become eligible.
JEE Advanced, which be conducted on 3rd July, will be organized by IIT (Indian Institute of Technology)- Kharagpur. Last year, the exam was held by IIT-Delhi.
Students have to clear JEE Main every year to become eligible for the Advanced, but due to the prevailing pandemic, students who have cleared JEE Main 2020 but did not appear for JEE Advanced 2020 due to any odd reason will be allowed to appear for Advanced 2021. This is a one-time option for all JEE aspirants.
Aspirants who did not appear for the JEE Advanced 2020 and have not exhausted their number of attempts will be allowed a one-time chance. However, students who appeared in JEE Advanced 2020 and have no number of attempts left will not be given an extension on hthe number of attempts.
When it comes to defining ranks in IIT-JEE, it depends on a student’s performance in JEE Advanced. A general category rank holder should either scored at least 75 percent or secure the top 20 percentile in their board exams to become eligible for an IIT seat. For SC/ ST category students, the requirement is at least 65 percent or achieved the top 20 percentile. But this year, due to the pandemic, the minimum marks requirement has been excluded. All those students who pass boards and JEE Advanced will become eligible for a seat based on the merit list.
JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in multiple sessions in February, March, April, and May. The first of the four attempts will be conducted between 23rd February and 26th February. The online registration process started on 16th December and will continue till 16th January, while the last day to submit the fees online is 17th January.
