Paper Analysis of 1st Shift JEE Main 2023 Exam Session 1 by Dr. Brajesh Maheshwari Sir, HOD Physics & Director, ALLEN Career Institute
The January session exam of JEE Main, the country’s biggest engineering entrance exam being conducted by the National Testing Agency, began on Tuesday. This examination was conducted in computer-based mode at two examination centers in Kota. On the basis of students’ feedback and responses received on CSAT, it can be asserted that the first day’s paper was normal. In none of the three subjects, the students faced any particular problem. There was no change in the paper pattern either. 20 questions were of multiple choice out of which 2-3 were of assertion-reasoning (assertion and reason), and 10 were of numerical value. Only 5 out of 10 numerical value questions were to be attempted. About 40 percent of questions were asked from class 11 and about 60 percent from class 12.
Physics paper was normal in the morning shift. Questions were asked from Mechanics related to Kinematics, and NLM Rotation. Questions were asked about Elasticity Thermodynamics as well as Elasticity and Thermal Expansion. There were no questions from error, fluid, or sound waves. JEE Main Exclusive Topics included questions on Semiconductors and Communication Systems. One question also remained from the photodiode.
The Chemistry paper was tougher than normal. The first part also asked Matching List and Assertion-Reasoning type questions. In Physical Chemistry, there were mixed questions from Gaseous State, Atomic Structure, Chemical Kinetics, Ionic Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, and Liquid Solution Surface Chemistry. In Organic Chemistry, there were questions from GOC, Purification Techniques, Halogen Derivatives, Grignard Reagent, Aldol Condensation, Biomolecules, and Chemistry in Everyday Life. In Inorganic Chemistry, questions were asked about Hydrogen Bonding, Magnetic Moment, Metallurgy, Salt Analysis and S & D Block, and Environmental Chemistry.
The paper was normal and can be termed easy as compared to last year. In Calculus, 6 to 7 questions were of moderate level. 4 questions were asked from Coordinate Geometry. Four questions were also asked from Vector-3D and one question from Matrix. One question was also asked from the Determinant and a mixed question from Quadratic-Determinant. 35 to 40 percent of questions were asked from Algebra. 1-1 question was asked from Reasoning and Relation of JEE Main topics.
