Over 17 Lakh Registrations have been Registered for JEE Main 2026 Which is a Record High
National Testing Agency (NTA) had reopened the application window for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 for 2 days from 12 March to 13 March after receiving representations from the aspirants for reopening of the registration window.
The registrations for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 were first carried out between 1 February to 25 February 2026. The exam is scheduled for April 2 to April 9, 2026. The JEE Main 2026 examination is the country’s biggest engineering entrance examination which is conducted by NTA.

Career Counselling expert at ALLEN Career Institute informed that the aspirants who could not apply for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 examination utilized the opportunity for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 registration when NTA recently reopened the registration window for 2 days from 12 March.
After conclusion of the registrations for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2, total 3 lakh unique candidates have been found to have registered for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 examination.
With the registration of 14.10 lakh unique candidates for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 and 3 lakh unique candidates for Session 2, the total registrations for JEE Main 2026 have touched figure of 17 lakh which is the highest ever registrations for any JEE Main examination so far.
All the previous records of registrations of unique candidates in both the sessions of JEE Main 2026 have been shattered.

Career counselling expert of ALLEN Career Institute, said that the number of students applying for the JEE-Main application process is increasing year after year. This number has more than doubled in the last six years.
In the past six years, 652,628 students registered for Session 1 in 2021, 872,970 in 2022, 860,064 in 2023, 1221,624 in 2024, and 1311,544 in 2025. This year, the number of students applying for the JEE Main exam has increased by one lakh compared to last year.
In 2026, the number of unique candidates for Session 1 and Session 2 combined has exceeded 17 lakhs, which will increase the competition for admission to NITs and IIITs this year compared to previous years.

The interest in engineering education is increasing in the country. A key reason for this is the ever-expanding technological employment opportunities across the country and the world.
Technical graduates are receiving more and greater opportunities than ordinary graduates.
Additionally, the number of seats in engineering institutes is also increasing every year. This is increasing students’ interest in admission to major institutes.
The increased number of seats, increased employment opportunities, and the increasing use of technology are major reasons for the growing interest in engineering education.
Currently, the total number of seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs in the country is approximately 58,000. Additionally, there are a large number of seats in private engineering colleges and universities, where students are pursuing careers.
