JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Exam Day Guidelines, Instructions & Key Details for Aspirants

The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 examination will commence from 2^nd April. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued latest advisory and examination day guidelines for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 (April) aspirants.

If you have already downloaded your admit card, the next step is to carefully understand all the instructions issued for the examination. Following these guidelines properly will help you avoid last-minute stress and ensure a smooth experience on exam day.

Carefully Verify All Details on Your Admit Card

Before anything else, candidates must thoroughly check the details mentioned on their admit card. Important information such as the date of examination, shift and timing, exam centre address, reporting time, and gate closing time should be clearly noted. Any confusion regarding these details can lead to unnecessary problems on the day of the exam.

Visit the Examination Centre in Advance

It is strongly recommended that candidates visit their allotted examination centre a day before the exam. This helps in understanding the exact location and planning the travel route accordingly.

Reaching the centre without confusion on exam day can save valuable time and reduce anxiety.

Reporting Time and Entry Rules Must Be Followed Strictly

Candidates must reach the exam centre as per the reporting time mentioned on the admit card. Entry to the examination hall will not be permitted after the gate closing time under any circumstances.

Since several pre-exam formalities are conducted at the centre, arriving early is essential.

Aadhaar Verification and Biometric Process

Candidates who did not opt for Aadhaar-based registration or chose other identification methods must report earlier than usual. They should reach at least one hour before the gate closing time to complete biometric verification smoothly.

Additionally, candidates should ensure that their Aadhaar biometric authentication is not locked on the exam day.

Mandatory Documents to Carry

Candidates must carry all required documents to the examination centre. These include a printed admit card (preferably in colour on A4 size paper), at least two passport-size photographs (same as uploaded in the application form), and a valid original photo ID proof. Entry will not be allowed without proper identity verification.

Candidates whose photographs did not match during application or who used non-Aadhaar identification must bring a duly attested certificate from a competent authority such as a school principal or a gazetted officer, as per the prescribed format.

Guidelines for PwD and PwBD Candidates

Candidates belonging to PwD or PwBD categories must carry their valid certificate or UDID card issued by the competent authority. Those requiring a scribe must have opted for this facility during the application process and must carry the necessary medical certification.

Eligible candidates will be provided compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour. It is also advised that such candidates report early to facilitate smooth entry and assistance.

Exam Hall Formalities and Instructions

Inside the examination hall, candidates will need to complete several formalities. They must fill in the attendance sheet carefully, sign it, paste their photograph, and provide a clear left-hand thumb impression. Any unclear or smudged impression should be avoided.

Since the exam is conducted in computer-based mode, candidates should be familiar with the system. They must also verify that the question paper displayed on the screen matches their selected subject and medium. Any discrepancy should be reported immediately to the invigilator.

Instructions for B.Arch Drawing Test

Candidates appearing for the B.Arch drawing test must bring their own geometry box, pencils, erasers, and colour pencils or crayons. The use of watercolours or any type of paint is strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.

Items Strictly Prohibited Inside the Exam Hall

Candidates are not allowed to carry items such as mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, study materials, paper, bags, wallets, or any electronic devices into the examination hall. Even loose sheets or stationery are not permitted. There is usually no facility available at the centre to store personal belongings, so candidates should plan accordingly.

Special Instructions for Diabetic Candidates

Candidates with diabetes are allowed to carry basic eatables such as fruits or sugar tablets and a transparent water bottle. However, packaged food items like chocolates or sandwiches are not permitted.

Security Checks and Re-Entry Protocol

Apart from initial frisking and biometric verification, candidates who leave the hall temporarily for any reason will have to undergo the same security checks again before re-entry.

Rough Work and Submission Rules

Sheets for rough work will be provided inside the examination hall. Candidates must write their name and roll number on each sheet and submit them in the designated drop box before leaving the hall. Failure to do so may result in the answers not being evaluated.

Similarly, the duly filled admit card must also be dropped in the designated box before exiting the examination hall.

Read All Instructions Carefully

Candidates are advised to go through all general and subject-specific instructions mentioned in the question paper as well as in the information bulletin. Following these instructions is essential for a fair and smooth examination process.

Sikh candidates are allowed to wear religious articles such as Kara and Kirpan as per guidelines.

Subject-Wise Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Section A contains 20 questions in each subject, all multiple-choice. Each correct answer carries four marks, while one mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. Unattempted questions receive no marks.

Section B consists of 5 numerical value-based questions per subject. All questions are compulsory, and answers must be entered as integers. The same marking scheme applies here as well.

Aptitude Test Details

The Aptitude Test includes 50 multiple-choice questions. Each question has four options, with only one correct answer. The marking scheme remains the same, with four marks for correct answers and a penalty for incorrect ones.

Drawing Test Guidelines

The Drawing Test consists of two questions, both of which must be attempted. Candidates must complete their drawings neatly within the space provided. No extra sheets will be given, and the drawing sheet must be submitted before leaving the hall. Candidates should avoid writing personal details anywhere on the sheet.

Planning-Based Questions

This section includes 25 objective-type questions, each with four options. Candidates must select the most appropriate answer. The marking scheme is consistent with other sections, rewarding correct answers and penalizing incorrect ones.
