Students of ALLEN Career Institute top International Junior Science Olympiad 2019

Once again ALLEN students proved their excellence in International Olympiad. 6 ALLEN Students bagged gold medals in IJSO 2019. India emerged as the top team at 16th International Junior Science Olympiad held at Doha, Qatar from 3 to 11 December. All six Indian students bagged GOLD medals. It is the first time in 16 years that all the gold medals are secured by Indian Students. India also received the trophy for the best team by virtue of highest aggregate score.

Sh. Naveen Maheshwari (Director of ALLEN Career Institute) said India is the only country to win 6 Gold medals and all the meritorious students are from ALLEN Career Institute. This is the first time in the history of International Junior Science Olympiad that all 6 students of the single institute from a single country have won gold medals. Arnav Aditya Singh, Atharv Shivram Mahajan, Krishna Sharma, Mahit Rajesh Gadhiwala, Manpreet Singh, Priyanshu Yadav are the classroom students of ALLEN who brought glory to the nation.

The team was accompanied by three leaders: Prof. Vinayak Katdare (Retd., Ruparel College, Mumbai), Prof. Chitra Joshi (Retd., R. Ruia College, Mumbai), Mr Vikrant Ghanekar (HBCSE). There were 322 students from 55 contesting countries and 15 guest/observer teams in this edition of IJSO. The IJSO competition consists of two theoretical examinations (MCQs and long questions) and one experimental examination (performed by groups of three students).

India is the only country to bag six gold medals this year. In all 32 gold, 64 silver and 96 bronze medals were awarded this year. This is the second occasion, after 2014, that India has achieved a full cache of gold medals in IJSO. In 2018, the Indian Physics team received 5 out of 5 golds in IPhO. Krishna Sharma received full marks in the MCQ examination. Both experimental groups achieved full marks in the Biology experiment examination. The Indian team also bagged the third prize in the video-making competition where each team was asked to prepare a 5-minute video on the topic of “Sustainable Development Goal 13” (Climate Action).
