Among Other Inspiring Icons With Cerebral Palsy (CP), ALLEN Student Tuhin Dey Defied CP To Crack JEE-Main
As we come together to celebrate World Cerebral Palsy Day on October 6th, it’s a golden opportunity to reflect on the incredible strength and resilience displayed by individuals who navigate life with cerebral palsy (CP).
This day is not only a call for awareness but also an invitation to draw inspiration from those who have defied odds and limitations, reminding us all that determination can turn challenges into triumphs. For students facing their own set of hurdles, the stories of famous personalities with CP serve as beacons of hope and motivation.
ALLEN student Tuhin Dey also battled cerebral palsy to crack JEE Main. Tuhin is an extraordinary individual, burdened with cerebral palsy and a congenital disorder called Ortho Gryphosis Multiplex. This condition weakens the body’s muscles to the extent that they cannot support its weight. Consequently, Tuhin cannot use his hands, stand on his feet, or move his torso. However, his determination knows no boundaries.
He writes using a pen held in his mouth, operates a mobile phone with his tongue and lips, and has chosen to study alongside regular students, challenging them academically. A 90% disabled student from ALLEN, Tuhin Day has also proved himself to be an inspirational example for the students. He has defeated cerebral palsy disease by cracking JEE Main. He is now studying at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur.
Tuhin’s journey has been marked by numerous surgeries and medical interventions including the insertion of plates to straighten his bones and the use of calipers. Despite these challenges, Tuhin remained steadfast in his pursuit of education. After completing the 9th grade at the IIT Kharagpur campus, he decided to prepare for engineering entrance exams, determined to secure admission to a prestigious engineering college in India. Tuhin himself searched on the internet and applied for admission to ALLEN while choosing the best coaching hub, Kota.
In Kota, Tuhin found the support he needed to prepare for the engineering entrance exams. His hard work paid off, and he achieved a remarkable Category Rank of 438 in JEE-Main. Tuhin’s pursuit of engineering is not only a testament to his personal courage but also a groundbreaking achievement as the first student with a 90 percent disability to enroll in a B.Tech program at an engineering institute.
Tuhin has one crucial message for students: never give up. He firmly believes that everything is achievable with unwavering determination. If he can pursue education, so can anyone else. Tuhin encourages every student to dream of a successful career and work tirelessly toward achieving it. He firmly believes that diligent, honest hard work will yield positive results.
Cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that affects movement and posture, can present unique challenges, particularly for students pursuing education. However, it’s crucial to recognize that challenges are not roadblocks but rather opportunities for growth and innovation. The stories of individuals who have risen above their circumstances can serve as powerful reminders that the human spirit is capable of achieving remarkable feats.
Christy Brown, an Irish author and painter, overcame severe physical limitations caused by CP. His determination to express himself led him to write his autobiography, “My Left Foot,” using only his left foot. Christy’s story teaches us that creativity and resilience can unlock doors to unimaginable possibilities.
Maysoon Zayid, an American actress and comedian, injects humor into her advocacy for disability rights. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Maysoon encourages students to embrace their uniqueness and challenge societal norms. Her journey exemplifies how a positive mindset and humor can be powerful tools for breaking down barriers.
Zach Anner, a comedian and motivational speaker, uses his platform to inspire others with cerebral palsy. Despite the challenges, Zach radiates positivity and humor. His story encourages students to find strength in their uniqueness and reminds them that a positive attitude can turn obstacles into opportunities.
Abbey Curran, the first woman with cerebral palsy to compete in the Miss USA pageant, is a testament to the power of determination. Her journey inspires students to pursue their dreams unapologetically, regardless of societal expectations or physical challenges.
Embrace Uniqueness: Everyone has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Embrace your uniqueness, recognizing that it is a source of strength rather than a limitation.
Persistence Pays Off: Challenges are inevitable, but it’s the persistence and determination to overcome them that lead to success. Use setbacks as stepping stones toward your goals.
Build a Support System: Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, and mentors. Their encouragement can provide the boost needed to navigate challenges.
Set Realistic Goals: Break down your aspirations into achievable goals. Celebrate small victories along the way, knowing that each step brings you closer to your dreams.
On World Cerebral Palsy Day, let’s celebrate the indomitable spirit of those living with CP and draw inspiration from their journeys. For students facing challenges, remember that education is a powerful tool for empowerment.
By adopting a positive mindset, embracing uniqueness, and learning from the stories of remarkable individuals, you pave the way for a future filled with possibilities and achievements. As you navigate your educational journey, let the stories of resilience on this day be a guiding light, propelling you toward success and fulfillment.
