Students can Apply for School Connect Program till 25th July
Under the School Connect Program of IIT Madras, now ten online courses will be conducted for school students. Students of 10th, 11th and 12th will be eligible for these courses.
The application process for the August session has also started. Schools can apply for this program till 25th July. In each session, the student will be able to do only one course, which will be of eight weeks.
In this, IIT professors will take online classes as well as clear the doubts of the students related to the topic. This program has been started to bring awareness about the new emerging fields in science and technology as well as other subjects.
How many schools got connected from major states
Large number of schools have got connected with the school connect program which include 679 from Tamil Nadu, 60 from Madhya Pradesh, 499 from Kerala, 46 from Bihar, 254 from Andhra Pradesh, 42 from Gujarat, 94 from Maharashtra, 20 from Chhattisgarh, 89 from Haryana, 17 from Jharkhand, 77 from Rajasthan and 13 from Himachal.
Who will be Eligible
Schools of all boards are eligible Schools of various state and other boards including CBSE can connect with IIT Madras’s School Connect program. There is no compulsion of the board. It is mandatory to run 10th, 11th and 12th class in the school. Schools only up to 10th will not be eligible.
Only the student studying in the concerned school can do the course. That is, a student of one school cannot connect through another school. The list of all schools has been released on Madras’ website.
These New Courses Have Been Added in the August Session
Courses related to Architecture and Design, Math and Computing, Games and Puzzles, Ecology, Engineering and Biological Systems, Law, Aerospace and Humanities have been added. AI and Data Science and Electronic Systems were already operational.
Question and Answer
Every week, students are given an online form during the classes. Students can write down their doubts and submit them. Interactive classes are also held every Saturday. Students can know the answers to their questions there.
A student is eligible for only one course in a batch. Any number of students from a school can join this program. For this, it is mandatory for the school to register. Schools will also have to appoint a coordinator.
IIT Madras has started this program as part of its social concerns. The institute aims to connect as many schools of the country as possible with the programs. A total of ten courses have now been included to provide information about new areas and opportunities
Enrollment
The ratio of boys and girls in the School Connect program is almost equal. There is not much difference in the numbers. Out of 58558, 30450 (52 percent) are boys and 28107 (48 percent) are girls.
On the other hand, 11037 students had registered for the last April session. Out of these, 7409 were successful in getting the certificate. After screening after every session, certificates are given to the candidates.
Alumni are not Eligible for the Course
IIT Madras has made it clear that pass outs and drop out students from the school will not be eligible for the course. After completion of the course, a certificate is also provided by the Madras Centre of Outreach and Digital Education Department.
