Top 500 rankers of JEE-Advanced chose Mumbai, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati and IIT Hyderabad
24% Preferred Kanpur and Madras
According to the report of JEE Advanced released by IIT Madras, this year 17695 students were given admission in IIT, out of which 14,200 boys are from gender neutral pool quota and 3495 girls are from female super numerical pool.
According to the data released of top 1000 rankers this year, 45% of the students in top 1000 ranks took admission in only two top IITs Bombay and Delhi.
What do the Figures Say?
Education Expert of ALLEN Career Institute told that many big revelations have been made in the report released by IIT Madras. This year, out of the top 50 ranked students, 47 students took admission in IIT Bombay, 2 students took admission in IIT Delhi.
Also, out of the top 100 rankers, 72 students took admission in IIT Bombay, only 2 students took admission in Madras. Similarly, out of the top 200 rankers, 100 students took admission in Bombay, 50 students in Delhi, 30 in Madras, and 16 students in Kanpur.
Apart from this, among the top 500 ranked students, 179 students chose IIT Bombay, 109 students Chose IIT Delhi, 69 got admitted in Madras, 42 students got admitted in Kanpur, 45 students got admission in Kharagpur, 33 students chose IIT Roorkee, 7 students chose Guwahati, and 3 students chose Hyderabad for admission.
45% chose Bombay and Delhi
According to the data released, 45% of the top 1000 rankers took admission in only two top IITs, Bombay and Delhi, and 24% of the students preferred Kanpur and Madras.
Out of the top 1000 rankers, 246 students took admission in IIT Bombay, 204 students in IIT Delhi, 128 in Madras, 117 in Kanpur, 82 in Kharagpur, 69 in Guwahati, 55 in IIT Roorkee, 41 in Hyderabad, 23 in BHU, 5 in IIT Indore, and only 1 in Gandhinagar.
In such a situation, most of the top 1000 rankers took admission in the old top IITs and did not show interest in admission in new IITs. Only among the new IITs, Hyderabad IIT was seen giving good preference.
Why do Toppers Choose Old IITs?
According to expert from ALLEN Career Institute, toppers give preference to only top 7 IITs. The main reason for this is that the old 7 IITs have a more competitive environment, due to which students are able to develop themselves in all aspects.
Companies also come in greater numbers for job placements in these IITs as compared to other IITs, which gives opportunities for placement to students from every field.
Also, world’s top MNCs offer packages worth crores to students in these IITs. Apart from this, there are also unlimited possibilities for doing MS abroad from these IITs because the recommendation of the professors here is very important for studying abroad.
Also, there are more possibilities of startups in old IITs, for which funds are also easily available. Apart from this, other students other than toppers also prefer the old top IITs, even if they get lower branches in these IITs. Those students also prefer to go to old IITs instead of new IITs.
