Tie-break Rule, Eligibility for Foreign Students Announced
The JEE Advanced 2024 examination for admission to 17,385 seats across 23 IITs in the country will be conducted by IIT Madras on May 26 this year. The examination will be held in two shifts, from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. All Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) related to the JEE Advanced 2024 examination have been released.
Based on the results announced on April 20 of JEE Main 2024, the top 2,50,000 candidates will be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2024 examination. The results of the JEE Advanced 2024 examination will be declared on June 9.
OBC-EWS Certificate Mandatory After April 1, 2024
According to Amit Ahuja, a career counseling expert at ALLEN Career Institute,last year, 1,89,744 students applied for the JEE Advanced examination, out of which 1,80,372 students appeared for the exam. As per the FAQs released, during the online registration for JEE Advanced, it is necessary for OBC and EWS category students to provide their relevant category certificate dated after April 1, 2024.
Students without the category certificate can opt for the general category by making a declaration. Physically challenged category students will be given an extra hour in each paper of the JEE Advanced 2024 exam.
Eligibility for Foreign Students Announced
Students with OCI or PIO cards dated after March 4, 2021, will be considered as foreign nationals. Additionally, all foreign national students, whose 12th grade is from India or abroad, are not required to take the JEE Main and can apply for JEE Advanced directly.
These students will not be considered under the General-EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD reservation categories. Furthermore, students with OCI or PIO cards dated before March 4, 2021, will have to take JEE Main first for appearing in JEE Advanced.
Tie-breaking Criteria for JEE Advanced 2024
In case two or more students score the same marks in the JEE Advanced 2024 examination, priority will be given to higher marks in Mathematics. If the marks in Mathematics are also the same, then the marks in Physics will be considered. In case of a tie in both subjects, equal ranks will be declared for the students.
Opportunity for Students Who Withdrew Seats in JoSAA Counseling Last Year
Students who withdrew their seats during JoSAA counseling last year without reporting to the reporting center and subsequently withdrew their seats will be eligible for JEE Advanced this year. Such students who are studying in NITs will also be eligible for JEE Advanced.
Relief for Improvement Exam Candidates
Candidates appearing for the JEE Advanced 2024 exam for admission to IITs can take an improvement exam in one or more subjects if they do not meet the eligibility criteria of scoring 75% for General, OBC, and EWS categories, and 65% for SC-ST categories in their board exams.
In such cases, the eligibility will be determined based on the subject-wise improvement in both mark sheets, while for eligibility in the top 20 percentile, candidates will need to appear for improvement exams in all subjects.
