World Students’ Day: Celebrating the Power of Students

15^th October is Celebrated as the World Students’ Day to Commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

It is celebrated every year on 15th October as ‘World Students’ Day’ to acknowledge the scintillating contributions of students towards society. It is the day that recognizes the zeal and imagination, as well as the strength of students all around the globe. Most of us remember studying days were very challenging and full of learning, and it is on this very day when we find potential in each person who learns.

Origin of World Students’ Day

This day holds a very vital place in India, as it is the birth anniversary of the former president and remarkable scientist, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Fondly remembered as the “People’s President,” Dr. Kalam carried a great deal of love for education and students.

He once said, “Students are the soul of any nation. Forging out ideas, passion, and knowledge of students will craft this world”. October 15 marks a very fitting reminder of his dream of students as architects for a better tomorrow.

Students in Society

Students stand at the heart of growth and change in society: from all the traditional campuses to virtual learning networks, students challenge boundaries, initiate change, and pose answers to some of the most difficult problems humankind faces.

It is that excitement and inquiry that marks a new order in viewing what has long been deemed impossible. The questions lead to a questioning of status quo and promote innovation in sciences, arts, technology, and the social justice disciplines.

World Students’ Day: A Day of Remembrance

World Students’ Day is not a festival only, but primarily a call for action. It reminds the governments, institutions, and societies, at large, to:

Spend on Education: Quality education should be a prerogative. Governments must strive to ensure equal opportunities for the student from each walk of life.
To Think Outside the Box-The future is for thinkers who are able to think outside the box. Students need to be motivated and encouraged to question, explore and develop. All students regardless of race, gender, socio-economic class, and ability should be affirmed and included in learning environments.

Role of Technology in the Student Experience

COVID 19 was a pandemic that recorded massive shift in way people took education all over the world. Digital tools and technology have played crucial roles guaranteeing that the students do not lose out on study. With platforms like Zoom, Google Classroom, and most other online learning portals making sure that education was all students needed it to be.

World Students’ Day is the day we should reflect on how to expand inclusiveness into education with the closure of gaps in access to technology so that not a single student remains left out of the educational process.

World Students’ Day would be the celebration of the minds yet to learn but are already making their mark in whatever unique way possible. Students are the dreamers, thinkers, and doers of tomorrow-they deserve all the recognition and support to make their potential a reality.
