Why is it Necessary to Participate in JoSAA Counseling? Know important things for every JEE Aspirant
We are going to share very important information about JOSAA counseling. Often there is confusion in the minds of students that who should participate in JOSAA counseling for more than 5 lakh seats in a total of 127 colleges of IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI and which students are eligible.
JEE Main 2025 Exam and Participating Students
This year about 14,75,000 students have participated in the JEE Main exam. There is no minimum cut off in JEE Main, which means that all the students who have appeared in this exam are eligible for JOSAA counseling. The advantage of this is that every student gets a chance to participate in at least counseling.
JEE Advanced 2025 and Cut Off
Around 2.5 lakh students have appeared in the JEE Advanced exam. After the JEE Advanced result is declared, the minimum qualifying cut off will be released, which is necessary to participate in the counseling of IIT. Only those students can participate in the counseling of IIT who meet this cut off.
Total Seats Information
There are about 17,000 seats available in IITs.
There are about 25,000 seats in NITs.
There are about 5,000 seats in IIITs.
There are around 5,000 seats available in GFTI.
Which students must participate in JOSAA counselling?
- Open category students whose All India Rank (AIR) is within 1.5 lakh.
- OBC and EWS category students whose rank is around 2 lakh.
- SC/ST category students whose rank is around 4 lakh.
Here ‘participate’ means that you must participate in the counselling because without participating, your chances of getting a college will be reduced.
JOSAA counselling fees and procedure
There is no fee to participate in JOSAA counselling. You have to pay the fee only when you are offered a seat and you accept it. That is, participating in counselling is completely free.Comparison with last time
Last year only around 2 lakh students participated in JOSAA counselling, whereas this year around 14.75 lakh students are eligible for it. This means that many students do not participate in counselling for fear of not getting a seat. But keep in mind, participating in counselling can be beneficial for you as sometimes some seats remain vacant.
Vacant seats and CSAB counselling
Sometimes seats remain vacant in some branches or colleges, which are later filled during CSAB counselling. So even if your rank is a little low, it is important to participate in counselling.
Advice and important tips
Open category students whose rank is up to 1.5 lakh must participate in counselling.
OBC/EWS category students whose rank is around 2 lakh should also participate in counselling.
Students of SC/ST category whose rank is up to 4 lakhs should also participate in counseling.
Tips for college selection
Choose college options based on your interest, college accessibility, placement record and future opportunities.
Arrange the preferences in descending order, so that your list is ready from first choice to least choice.
