Self-Esteem Awareness Session for students held at ALLEN

In Kota, a “Self-Esteem Awareness Session” organized jointly by Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur’s Center for Child Protection, Kota Police, and ALLEN Career Institute, students were given the message to strengthen self-esteem and overcome the serious social problem of body shaming. The session was held at ALLEN Samyak Campus in Kunhadi, where a large number of students and experts participated.

Additional Superintendent of Police Niyati Sharma, the chief guest, while addressing the students, said that strengthening self-esteem is paramount in today’s times. She clarified that instead of being afraid of body shaming, transform it into self-confidence. The stronger the self-esteem, the more strongly students will be able to overcome negative thoughts.

Body Shaming is a Serious Social Problem

Ashutosh Srivastava, State Advisor for Child Protection and UNICEF Representative, said that nature has made every human being unique. Every individual has unique qualities and characteristics. However, body shaming is rapidly increasing today due to poor upbringing, social pressure, and the negative impact of the internet. This not only impacts mental health but also weakens self-esteem.

He stated that discrimination based on body shape, color, height, and weight is often observed in society. This results in people developing self-doubts about their own appearance or appearance. Inspiring the students, Srivastava said that everyone goes through periods of self-satisfaction. At such times, it’s important to stand up for themselves and say, “I am perfect the way I am.”

A Shift in Thinking is the Solution

Ashutosh Srivastava advised the students that a shift in thinking is essential to overcome negative thoughts. He said that if you see something negative about yourself in the mirror, try to find something positive in it. Self-confidence and a positive attitude are the keys to progress in life.

The Session Featured an Open Discussion

Praveen Singh, Bimal Singh, Radheshyam Kumawat, and Narendra Singh from Sardar Patel Police University, along with Manak Mehta, Nilesh Agarwal, and Kapil Khatri from ALLEN Kota, were present at the event. Sanju Sharma, Kalpana, and Seema from the Kota Police Student Cell also interacted with the students.

During the discussion, the students shared their experiences and sought solutions by asking experts questions.

Don’t Scare Children, Communicate: Dr vinod Daria

During the session, Dr Vinod Daria, Professor of Psychiatry at NMCH Kota, highlighted the issues of drug addiction and its associated ill effects. He stated that drug abuse not only affects children’s physical health but also negatively impacts their mental balance, family relationships, and education.

 Dr Vinod Daria clarified that providing children with timely, accurate information and awareness is essential to prevent drug addiction. Merely scaring or punishing them will not solve the problem. He urged parents and teachers to communicate with children, provide them with options and support, and guide them in the right direction.

Why is Self-Esteem Important?

Self-esteem is the foundation on which a person’s self-confidence and mental strength rest. When children or young people feel self-conscious about themselves, their academic achievements and social behavior are affected. Situations like body shaming can break a person from within. Strengthening self-esteem should be a continuous process, in which family, teachers, and society play an important role.

Ways to Deal with Body Shaming

Experts also shared some practical ways to prevent body shaming in the session:

  • Accept yourself – Understand your strengths and limitations and be proud of yourself.
  • Develop a positive mindset – Learn to ignore negative comments from others.
  • Adopt a healthy lifestyle – Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep provide mental and physical strength.
  • Choose positive company – Choose friends who inspire and boost self-esteem.
  • Seek psychological help – If body shaming is severely affecting self-esteem, seek professional assistance.

It became clear from this session that if family, teachers and society together establish communication with children, then not only is it possible to prevent problems like body shaming but the future generation can also be made mentally and socially stronger.
