A Student with 7,430 and a Girl Student with 11,262 AIR got Admission in Bombay
The counseling process of the IITs of the country has ended. The first semester of studies has also started in most of the IITs. After the counseling is over, the opening and closing ranks of all the branches of all the IITs of this year have also been released.
According to the data released in the last round of JEE counseling, this year students did not give much priority to lower branches in these IITs due to lack of branch change option in top IITs including IITs of Mumbai, Madras, Kharagpur, and Hyderabad.
As a result, the cutoff of lower branches of these top IITs has increased and students with lower ranks have also got branches in these IITs, whereas till last year all the branches of these IITs used to close at lower ranks.
If we look at the data, the closing AIR of BS Chemistry branch of IIT Bombay from gender neutral pool quota was 7430, Biological Science of IIT Madras was 10682, closing AIR of Applied Geology branch of IIT Kharagpur was 12893, closing AIR of Industrial Chemistry branch of IIT Hyderabad was 9551.
Similarly, from female pool quota, Bombay’s closing AIR was 11262, IIT Madras’s was 14739, IIT Kharagpur’s closing was 22,024, and IIT Hyderabad’s closing AIR was 16,446.
The main reason for the increase in the cutoff rank of the lower branches of these top IITs is the closure of the branch change option in these IITs. Earlier, students had the option of changing the branch on the basis of their first year performance, due to which many students were upgraded to core branch and good branch in the second year.
Due to this, students used to give more priority to the lower branch of top IITs than the core branch of IITs opened in the year 2012 and year 2017, in such a situation, the cutoff of the lower branch of top IITs used to go down, but now due to the closure of this branch change option, the cutoff of the lower branch of many top IITs including IITs of Mumbai, Madras, Kharagpur, and Hyderabad has increased.
Due to which now students with lower ranks are getting admission in these branches. Students are now seen giving preference to other IITs instead of these IITs where branch change option is also available.
