At the same time, a girl got admission on the super numerical seat with only 80 marks.

This Time the Question Paper was Difficult

Education experts say that the JEE Advanced 2025 paper was more difficult than in previous years. This is the reason that in the general category, boys could get a seat with only 25.55% marks and girls with 22.22% marks. The total marks of the exam were 360. Due to the low scoring trend, the limit of seat allotment in counseling slipped down.

IIT Admission in Reserved Category and on Low Marks

According to the report, the situation was even different in the reserved categories. Students got IIT seats with just 37 marks. The detailed details are as follows:

EWS (Economically Weaker Section):

A student got admission with a score of 78 marks i.e. 24.67%.

A girl student got a seat with 78 marks i.e. 21.67%.

OBC Category:

Boys got admission on only 74 marks i.e. 20.55%.

Girls got seat on 66 marks i.e. 18.33%.

Girls got seat on 43 marks i.e. 11.94%.

ST Category:

Boys got seat on 41 marks i.e. 11.39%.

At the same time, students were also selected on just 37 marks i.e. 10.28%.

JEE Advanced 2025 Cut-off Marks

The minimum cut-off released by JEE Advanced for this year’s counseling is as follows:

General Category: 74 marks

OBC & EWS: 66 marks

SC/ST: 37 marks

However, this cut-off slipped further in the seat allotment during JoSAA Counselling 2025.

Lessons for Students and Parents

  1. Hope remains even with low marks:

This year’s result clearly shows that in case of a tough exam, one can get admission in good IITs even with relatively low marks.

  1. Cut-off changes every year:

The cut-off of JEE Advanced depends on the difficulty and competition of the paper. Therefore, students should always prepare to the maximum.

  1. Big impact of reservation:

Students of reserved category get opportunity even with minimum marks, which increases their chances of success.

  1. Super Numerical seats:

Super Numerical seats reserved for girls and some special categories benefited many students this time too.

JEE Advanced 2025 has once again proved that admission in IIT does not depend only on high marks, but it is linked to many factors like the difficulty of the exam, reservation system and seat matrix. While boys got seats on 92 marks and girls on 80 marks in the general category, this limit reached 37 marks in the reserved category.

The biggest learning for students is that they should focus on concepts rather than marks during preparation, as the difficulty of the exam changes every year. Also, understanding the counseling process and filling the options correctly also plays an important role in IIT admission.
