Smart Paper Attempt Tips to Score High in JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced 2025 preparation is in its final stages and now is the time to focus not just on studying but on smart strategies. This blog explains ways and methods for aspirants to improve their current scores, especially those who are feeling discouraged at the moment or whose ranks in mock tests are relatively low.

Key Points:

Now is not the time to study more new things. The goal should be to score the highest score from the knowledge you have studied. For this, a solid and systematic strategy for paper attempts is necessary. This strategy has been prepared by analyzing the previous years’ papers and the attempt data of thousands of students.

The first and most important strategy is the subject order – i.e. first Chemistry, then Physics and finally Mathematics. This is because Chemistry scores the highest marks, the chances of mistakes are the lowest and the student’s confidence is built at the beginning of the paper itself. Maths questions are difficult and have more negative marking, so it is better to attempt it in the end.

The paper solving technique is divided into three rounds, but these rounds are not based on the difficulty of the questions but on the type of questions.

Round 1 (Solve First):

Single correct answer questions: These are easy, have less negative marking.

Matrix match type: These have less errors, can be solved even with partial information.

Non-negative numerical type: These have no negative marking, solve them with confidence.

Paragraph type questions (if they have four options and only one is correct): Solve these in the first round as well.

Round 2 (Moderate Level Questions):

Numerical value type or single/double digit integer type questions.

These are a little more difficult than the first round and need to be worked on carefully.

Third Round (Attempt at the end):

Questions with multiple correct answers: The most difficult, time consuming and most likely to have negative marking.

Paragraph type questions (if the answer is numerical or integer): These have become difficult in the last few years, so keep them for the end.

Smart Tricks That can Make a big difference in the score:

Elimination method: Eliminating the wrong option and reaching the correct one, especially very useful in matrix match and paragraph questions.

Units and dimension check: In Physics, many times the answer is known just by adding units.

Substitution method: In some questions of Maths and Physics, the solution can be found by putting values.

Use of boundary conditions: Check the options by applying some special conditions in difficult questions, this can make it easier to reach the answer.

Important points:

It is imperative to read the rules and instructions carefully at the beginning of the paper: where there is negative marking, where there is partial marking and where there is none.

Do not solve a question just because it has information about all four options. If you are sure about two and are doubtful about the rest, stop there – there is a possibility of getting partial marking.

Saving time and maintaining mental balance is also the key to success in this exam.

Final advice:

Now is not the time to study, but to use what has already been learned in the right way. Trying to learn new things can be harmful, as incomplete information increases the risk of getting the wrong answer. So, adopt these strategies in mock tests, practice, and appear in the main exam with confidence. With the right strategy, you can bring a big improvement in your rank, no matter how far behind you are right now.
