JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams are the biggest gateways to engineering education in India. Through these examinations, lakhs of students take admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) every year.
In such a situation, a high-level committee is necessary to maintain transparency in the conduct of the examination, policies, rules and regulations. For this purpose, JEE Apex Board (JAB) was formed. This board is the final policy making body, which monitors all the processes related to JEE.
Department of Higher Education recently issued a notification announcing that JAB has been reconstituted for the period 2026 and 2027.
This step was taken because the term of the former board had ended. The ministry says that this decision was necessary for the successful conduct of JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) and to maintain transparency.

The newly reconstituted JAB has members from several prominent institutions and organisations.
Honorary Chairman: Professor S.K. Jain (Former Vice Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University)
State Government Representatives: Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh
Member Secretary: Director General of National Testing Agency (NTA)
The responsibilities of the new JAB are extremely wide-ranging. According to the notification:
All the rules, policies and regulations related to JEE (Main) will be decided by JAB.
JEE (Advanced) is conducted every year by one or the other IIT. JAB will coordinate with that IIT in this event.
The secretariat of JAB will be provided by NTA. It will include members from NTA, IITs and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).
The notification clarifies that:
“The NTA will provide administrative and logistical support for the conduct of the JEE (Main) examination across the country. The permanent secretariat of the JAB will be in the NTA, which will use the existing infrastructure and resources. Limited posts may be created, if required, with the approval of the Cabinet/CEE.”
Since JEE is one of the toughest entrance exams in India, students should focus not only on completing the syllabus but also on time management, mock tests and precise strategy.
After the new restructuring, JAB is expected to not only strengthen the exam conduct but also make technical improvements in the future.
The Reconstitution of JEE Apex Board (2026-27) by the Ministry of Education is a far-reaching step that will ensure transparency, credibility and smooth conduct of the country’s biggest engineering entrance exam.
The new board will comprise directors of institutions of national importance, representatives of state governments and officials of the Ministry of Education. This will make the examination system even stronger.
For students who are preparing for JEE 2026 and 2027, this is a positive sign that the examination process is being made more fair, systematic and technologically advanced.
