20% Female Pool Allocation Leads to 421st Ranked Girl Getting CS in IIT Bombay
JoSAA Counseling 2024 has released the seat allotment for the first round of joint counseling for 59917 thousand seats in a total of 121 colleges including IITs-NITs in the country.
Students who have been allotted seats in any college in the first round seat allotment will have to report online by 5 pm on June 24.

As per the opening and closing ranks released after the first round of seat allocation of JoSAA counseling 2024, a student with 15739 rank and a girl student with 24 thousand 312 rank were allotted Interdisciplinary branch of IIT Dhanbad due to 20 percent quota.
Similarly, Maths and Computing Branch of NIT Mizoram at closing rank 7 lakh 12487 AIR from NIT’s Gender Neutral Pool quota and Mechanical branch of NIT Mizoram at 10 lakh 70 thousand 84 AIR from female pool quota were allotted from home state quota.

In JoSAA counseling 2024, girls were allotted 20% seats from the female pool including super numerical seats. Due to which girls with lower ranks also got an opportunity to choose Computer Science branch in top IIT-NIT as per their filled college branch preference list.
Also, due to less number of girls in top ranks this year as compared to last year, the closing rank of CS branch in IIT Bombay went up from open to 421 AIR whereas last year a girl with 291 rank in first round got CS branch in IIT Bombay.
This year, the closing ranks from female pool quota in top 7 IITs were Delhi 556, Madras 757, Kanpur 1117, Kharagpur 1579, Roorkee 1697, Hyderabad 1809 and Guwahati 2095 AIR respectively.
During online reporting, students will first have to download their initial seat allotment information slip. After this, students will have to choose the counseling options freeze, float and slide to go for further counseling.
After choosing the counseling option, students will have to scan and upload the necessary documents like 10th, 12th mark sheet, class 12th certificate, category related documents, medical certificate, and cancelled cheque.
In the final stage, the student will have to deposit the seat acceptance fee. Students can pay this fee through debit card, credit card, net banking and SBI challan, which is Rs 35,000 for general, EWS, OBC category and Rs 17,500 for SC-ST and physically handicapped.
After paying the fee, the JoSAA Verification Authority will verify the uploaded documents of the students and confirm the allotted seat.
If any error is found in the uploaded documents, the students will be informed through a query. Students are required to respond to the i-query by June 25, otherwise their allotted seat will be cancelled.
Students who have filled the options of NIT colleges in JoSAA counseling 2024 will have to scan and upload their 12th board pass certificate or mark sheet as State of Eligibility Proof.
Students who have filled only IIT college choices are not required to provide State of Eligibility Proof.
Students, who have not been allotted a college in the first round, are not required to report online and deposit a seat acceptance fee. They will have to wait for further counseling.
In the first round of seat allocation during JoSAA counseling 2024, all the students have been allotted college seats from their filled college priority list first on the basis of open rank.
In case of not getting a seat from the open, the seat has been allotted on the basis of their category rank.
Such students who have filled their category OBC and EWS during JEE Main and Advanced application, but the student is not able to give the certificate after 1 April 2024, then to go to the general category, they will have to write an undertaking and upload it in the category certificate column.
The allotted seat of these students will be canceled and they will get a seat from the general category in the next round of counseling. The format of the undertaking has to be downloaded from the JoSAA website.
