Over 1.4 Million Aspirants have Registered for JEE-Main 2026 Session 1 Exam
More than 1.4 million students have registered for JEE-Main Session 1, the country’s largest engineering entrance exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency. Even on the last date, November 27th, a large number of students registered for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Examination.
Career Counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute, said that the number of students applying for the JEE-Main application process is increasing year after year.
This number has more than doubled in the last six years. In the past six years, 652,628 students registered for Session 1 in 2021, 872,970 in 2022, 860,064 in 2023, 1221,624 in 2024, and 1311,544 in 2025. This year, the number of students applying for the JEE Main exam has increased by one lakh compared to last year.
Considering the trend of previous years, more than two lakh unique students will apply for the April exam.
In 2026, the number of unique candidates for Session 1 and Session 2 combined is expected to exceed 16 lakh, which will increase the competition for admission to NITs and IIITs this year compared to previous years.
Students who made any mistakes during the JEE Main application process will be given the opportunity to correct them between December 1st and 2nd. This opportunity for correction will be the first and last chance for students.
The interest in engineering education is increasing in the country. A key reason for this is the ever-expanding technological employment opportunities across the country and the world.
Technical graduates are receiving more and greater opportunities than ordinary graduates. Additionally, the number of seats in engineering institutes is also increasing every year.
This is increasing students’ interest in admission to major institutes. The increased number of seats, increased employment opportunities, and the increasing use of technology are major reasons for the growing interest in engineering education.
Currently, the total number of seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs in the country is approximately 58,000. Additionally, there are a large number of seats in private engineering colleges and universities, where students are pursuing careers.
Continuous government campaigns are being run to increase the skill pool in the country. Projects are being launched to skill the youth. Skill-based employment opportunities are being created in every village.
Seeing this, even rural youth are beginning to consider careers in engineering education. By engaging in technical education, young people are skilling themselves and preparing themselves for employment.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has tightened its guidelines for JEE Main 2026 to enhance transparency and prevent cheating. Previous exams saw a high number of cases of unfair means (UFM)—39 students were caught cheating or falsifying documents in January 2025, while 110 students were caught cheating or tampering with documents in the second session in April 2025.
In light of these incidents, the NTA has further tightened the rules this time. Six new points have been added to the new rules, explicitly declaring activities such as peeking, hand gestures, body language, and tampering with computer systems as UFM. Violating any of these rules will result in a three-year disqualification.
