How to Create an Effective Study Plan for NEET UG

While the bulk syllabus and high-level competition associated with the examination make it pretty overwhelming, with the right strategy and a well-planned study plan, you would feel confident enough to approach the preparation process.

Here’s how to create the best study plan that is assured to help ace NEET UG:

1. Know the NEET UG Syllabus Inside-Out

Even before you start your study plan, it is quite crucial to know the syllabus of NEET. The syllabus of NEET basically consists of three subjects, which are- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology) from both class 11 and class 12. Important things to remember:  –

  • Divide the syllabus into smaller units that would be easy to handle.
  • Finalize on major topics considering the weightage provided and trends that are followed in previous year questions.

Tip: Majorly focus on the higher-yielding subjects but don’t ignore small portions, NEET tends to make question from smaller sections.

2. Clear, Specific Goals

The goals shall serve as the roadmap for your preparation. Short and long-term goals to keep tab on where you stand in terms of preparation.

  • Short term: Target as a daily or weekly target, something like completing one chapter, solving 50 MCQs, etc.
  • Long-term goals: Being able to reach or master a specific topic at the end of every month; pre-prepare all formulas on a white sheet of paper; memorize the important algebraic formulas from RD Sharma, etc.

4. Revision and Practice

Revision is quite essential in case of NEET UG preparation. You should earmark a time slot in your calendar for:

Revision of at least 30-60 minutes over the topics covered for the previous day.

Revise chapters that you covered any of the previous weeks one day in a week, so that you do not forget about them over time.

Other than revision, do as many questions as possible

  • MCQs: Attempt as many MCQs as possible upon completing a chapter
  • Previous years’ papers: Get an idea of the pattern and what type of questions have been appearing.

5. Mock Tests Form a Part of Strategy

Mock tests are a part of any NEET preparation. These tests, taken steadily, not only tell you where you stand and how much more you need to improve but will also guide through the study plan.

  • Don’t wait till the end of the syllabus to give those mock tests. First do sectional tests and then go for full-length tests.
  • Analyze your performance : Review the mistakes you made in every test, learn where you went wrong, and focus on those weak areas.

Tip: Try testing your time management capabilities by giving yourself similar exam conditions under a mock test. It would help in better time management during the actual test.

  • Tracking progress: Use a checklist to mark the completed topics and how satisfying that feels.
  • Treat yourself: After completing your short-term goals, treat yourself with something delightful-a packet of your favorite munchies or free time devoted to some fun activity.

Tip: Surround yourself with good company it could be a study group or inspiring podcasts. Do not indulge in negative self-talk and comparison with others.

8. Balance Studies with Self-Care

NEET UG preparation is mentally and physically taxing. You should keep a very healthy balance:

  • Physical Exercise: Exercise regularly. This will enhance concentration levels and reduce the stress levels.
  • Sleep: Sleep for 7-8 hours at night time. A fresh and rested brain is ready to accept all the material.

Diet: Healthy meals must be committed to in order to provide nutrients to your brain cells, hence maintaining that great energy throughout those study sessions.

Offer your brain time free for relaxation and pastimes. A less stressful and fresh mind absorbs the information much better.
