Until Last Year (2025), IISc Conducted BTech Admissions Through its Own Process Based on JEE Advanced Scores
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in the country. The institute has a strong reputation not only in India but also globally.
In the recently released Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026, IISc has once again maintained its position among the leading Indian institutions.
IISc BTech Admissions from 2026 will be through JoSAA
In a major change, from the academic session 2026, IISc Bangalore will conduct admissions to its BTech programs through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling.
Until now, i.e., until 2025, IISc followed a separate process for its B.Tech. admissions, which involved selection based on JEE Advanced scores, followed by students reporting in person to the institute.
Now, from 2026, this entire process will be conducted online under the JoSAA counselling. JoSAA counselling is likely to begin on June 2, 2026, giving students the opportunity for seat allocation in IISc along with IITs and other premier institutions.
JEE Advanced 2026: Exam Date and Time
JEE Advanced 2026 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee. The exam will be held on May 17, 2026, in two papers:
- Paper 1: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Paper 2: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
A JEE Advanced rank will be mandatory for B.Tech. Admissions at IISc, and JoSAA will allocate seats based on this rank.
JoSAA Counselling: A Gateway to Admissions in 127 Top Institutions
JoSAA counselling is India’s largest online seat allocation process. This process facilitates admissions to 127 premier engineering institutions across the country, including:
- 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
- 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
- IIEST Shibpur
- 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)
- Over 47 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)
In 2025, 250,236 candidates qualified for JEE Advanced, highlighting the competitive nature of this examination.
IISc’s Strong Position in Global and National Rankings
- IISc Bangalore’s academic excellence has also received international recognition. In the Times Higher Education Rankings 2026, IISc secured the 96th position globally in the Computer Science subject.
- IISc has also consistently performed exceptionally well in the NIRF rankings:
- Since 2019, IISc has maintained the second position in the overall category.
- From 2016 to 2018, the institute held the first position in the country.
The inclusion of IISc Bangalore’s BTech admissions through JoSAA counselling is a significant opportunity for students.
This will not only simplify and streamline the admission process but also provide students with the option to choose IISc alongside other top engineering institutions in the country on a single platform. This change is crucial for students preparing for JEE Advanced 2026.
