IIT Jodhpur offers B.Tech tuition in the first year courses in English and Hindi. The institute plans to introduce two departments for first year students who can choose the department according to their preferences.
The Ministry of Education, Government of India stated on X (formerly Twitter):
“Ministry of Education is pleased to announce that @iitjodhpur will offer B.Tech 1 year courses in both Hindi and English from this academic year! This initiative aims to ensure that all students can learn effectively in the language, which they use. Knows best Both parts are taught by the same teacher, maintaining consistency and quality. This is a significant step towards promoting a more inclusive and supportive educational environment at IIT Jodhpur.”
Senate Approval for Dual-Language Instruction
Meanwhile, the institute itself said, “In its recent meeting, the Senate approved a proposal to teach courses in Hindi and English. The Senate noted that IIT-Jodhpur, which is at the forefront of engineering, science, humanities, and management, should provide instruction in the mother tongue to help students who have learning difficulties due to insufficient English language skills.”
Maintaining Academic Rigor
The first-year courses of English and Hindi departments will be taught by the same faculty to maintain the same academic rigor in the delivery of curricula.
Admission to the Indian program is based on the score in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024).
Alignment with NEP 2020
Introduction of B.Tech courses in Hindi will be synchronized with NEP 2020 to make learning more inclusive and accessible to students.
As part of NEP 2020, several states have introduced or are planning to introduce medical and engineering courses in Hindi as well.
IIT-BHU was the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to introduce Hindi as a medium of instruction for BTech courses.
