IIT-NIT Admission 2024: Students’ Giving Priority to Lower Branches of Top IITs

Last Date to Respond to Second Round Query is July 3

JoSAA Counselling 2024 for admission in 121 institutes, including IIT-NIT, of the country is in progress. After the second round of seat allocation JoSAA counselling 2024.

The last date to respond to the query received during online reporting is 5 pm till July 3. If the students do not respond, they will be out of the further counselling process.

Priority to Lower Branch of Top IITs

According to the allotted seats released in the two rounds so far, the trend of students is being seen more towards the lower branch of the top seven IITs.

Students are also giving preference to lower branches of top IITs of Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Hyderabad, BHU such as Chemical, Energy Engineering, Engineering Physics, Production and Industrial, Material Science, Metallurgy, Aerospace, Environmental, Biotechnology, Bio Engineering, Manufacturing, Textile, Ocean Engineering, Mining, Earth Science, Agriculture and Food Engineering over core branches of other IITs.

The other IITs include IITs of Dhanbad, Jodhpur, Rupnagar, Mandi, Indore, and Gandhinagar which were established in the year 2012. Students give preference only to Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Maths and Computing branches in these IITs.

Apart from this, students give preference to other branches only after the lower branches of top IITs. After this, the core branches of IITs, established in the year 2017-18, like IIT Jammu, Bhilai, Goa, Dharwad, Tirupati, Palakkad IIT are also selected in the end.

Why do Students Choose Lower Branches of Top IITs?

Students give more priority to lower branches of top-7 IITs up to the initial 8000 AIRs than other IIT core branches because the top 7 IITs provide a competitive environment, due to which students are able to do their overall development.

In IIT, students also get the opportunity to take other branches as minors in addition to their own branch, due to which students usually strengthen their profile by taking computer science subjects in minors and learn coding, programming as these IITs are also in the priority of big placement companies.

Due to this, students here get placements in good companies. Companies come in greater numbers for job placement in these IITs as compared to other IITs, these IITs give opportunities for placement to students from every field.

However, now the option of changing branches has also been closed in many top IITs which include IITs of Bombay, Madras, Kharagpur, and Hyderabad.

CSAB Counselling on Vacant Seats of NIT System

After the completion of JoSAA counselling 2024, counselling will be done by CSAB for the vacant seats of NIT, IIIT and GFTI of NIT system. This counseling process will be done in two rounds whose registration and choice filling will be done between 31st July and 3rd August.

The entire counselling process will go on till 14th August. Information about the remaining seats after JoSAA counselling will be released on 29th July.
