The board exam results of such students will not be released and they will be placed in the Essential Repeat Category.

Additional Subject Rules

In Class 10, a maximum of two additional subjects can be chosen in addition to the five compulsory subjects.
In Class 12, only one additional subject is allowed.
However, students must study the additional subject for two years.

Subject Selection Rules

If a school does not obtain permission from the CBSE to teach a subject, or does not have the necessary teachers, laboratories, etc., its students cannot take that subject as a core or additional subject.
This is intended to ensure that students have access to quality education and the right resources.
Students in the Compartment and Essential Repeat Category
If a regular student has failed an additional subject and is placed in the Compartment or Essential Repeat category, they can apply to retake the exam as a private candidate.
However, if a student does not meet the above conditions, they will not be allowed to take the additional subject even as a private candidate.
