JEE Advanced 2025: Competition Among 11 Students for Each IIT Seat

The application process for JEE-Advanced 2025, one of the toughest exams in the country, has been completed. This time around 1.90 lakh candidates have applied for 17740 seats available in 23 IITs.

The exam will be conducted by IIT Madras on 18 May in two shifts—the first shift will be from 9 am to 12 noon and the second shift will be from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Admit cards will be released on 11 May.

Competition is higher than the number of seats available

This year, the number of students is so high compared to the number of seats available that on an average 11 students are competing for every seat. Many of the 1.90 lakh registered students will take this challenging exam with the hope of getting one of the limited seats. Of these 17740 seats, around 20% are covered under the female supernumerary quota, which is in addition to the already existing reservation for girl students (20%).

Female students have an edge

Generally, 65% male and 35% female students appear for JEE-Advanced. The chances of selection in IIT for girl students increase due to reservation for girls.

A large number of students did not apply

Out of 2.50 lakh students who are successful in JEE-Main, every year about 60 thousand students do not register for JEE-Advanced. The main reason for this is the requirement of 75% marks in 12th board and lack of adequate preparation for the exam. NTA did not disqualify such students in the Main results, but still they do not apply.

The special thing is that students who have already completed 12th and whose two chances have already been completed are not eligible this year.
