JoSAA Counseling 2025 will Begin from 3 June after Declaration of JEE Advanced 2025 Result
JEE Advanced Exam has been conducted and now students have a chance to calculate their probable marks based on the provisional answer key.
As soon as students know their estimated scores, the biggest question arises – “What rank will I get and what branches can I get in which IITs on that rank?”
In this article, we will explain in detail what kind of All India Rank (AIR) or Category Rank can be obtained on which score range and which IIT and branch are likely to be obtained on those ranks.
JEE Advanced Scores and Expected Ranks
Below are the expected ranks based on some expected score ranges. Note that these estimates are based on previous years data and the difficulty level of this year’s exam:
Expected Score | General Category Rank | OBC Rank | EWS Rank | Expected Branch and IIT |
Above 220 | Under 500 | Top 100 | Top 150 | CS/EE/ME in IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras |
200 to 210 | Under 1000 | Up to 200 | Up to 300 | CE, EE, ME in IIT Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee |
180 to 200 | 1500–2000 | 300–500 | 400–600 | EC/Mechanical in IIT BHU, Guwahati, ISM Dhanbad |
150 to 180 | 2500–4000 | 700–1200 | 800–1400 | Chemical, Civil in older IITs or CS in newer IITs |
120 to 150 | 5000–7000 | 1500–2500 | 1800–2800 | Civil, Metallurgy in IITs like Mandi, Jammu, Jodhpur |
100 to 120 | 8000–12000 | 3000–4500 | 3500–5000 | Lower branches in new IITs; some may not get a seat |
Impact of Category on Rank and Branch
Your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) plays a very important role in rank and branch allotment. For example:
A student who has scored 230 marks in OBC can have a category rank between 100 to 200, which gives him a chance of getting a good branch even in top institutes like IIT Bombay, Delhi.
On the other hand, if a student is from SC/ST category and has less marks, then also admission in IIT is possible, because the cutoff remains low.
JoSAA counseling and Current Updates
The process of JoSAA Counseling usually starts immediately after the JEE Advanced result. This time it is expected to be from 3rd June, but no final schedule has been published on the JoSAA website yet. As soon as the schedule is released, students will have to fill their options.
You are advised not to fall prey to any agents or counselling “gurus” who claim to get you a college for money. Any such promise can only be a scam. Do your choice filling yourself, and consult authentic sources if needed.
IIT or NIT? Branch better or College?
This is one of the most discussed questions – should we take a weak branch in a better college or a slightly lower college for a better branch?
If you are getting a branch like Mechanical, Civil in top IITs, it may be more beneficial in the long run. If you are getting CS/IT in top NITs like NIT Trichy, Surathkal or Warangal, then that can also be a great option.
It completely depends on your career goals, interests and future plans.
