JEE Advanced 2025: Safe Score for Admission in IIT

The JEE Advanced 2025 Result will be Declared on 2 June

As we all know, JEE Advanced exam is now very close. In such a situation, the question in the mind of thousands of students is that how many marks can get admission in IIT, even if it is the last branch and the last IIT.

Here we will elaborate that on the basis of previous years’ data and ranking trends,  how much score can be safe to get in which category for admission in IIT.

Counselling Eligibility Cut-offs 2024

First of all, just being eligible for counselling and getting a seat in IIT are two different things. In 2024:

The paper was of 360 marks in total.

Cutoffs for counselling:

General: 30% (approximately 108 marks)

OBC / EWS: 27% (approximately 97 marks)

SC / ST: 15% (approximately 54 marks)

But this cut-off only qualifies for counselling. It does not mean that the student will get a seat in IIT. Getting a seat depends on the rank and score.

Safe Score for IIT Admission: Category-wise Analysis

We can tell on the basis of data that at what rank and score the last seat was obtained last year. On this basis, an estimate has been made that if the paper is of 360 marks in 2025 also, then what could be the safe score.

General (GEN)

Last Rank (AIR): Approx 17000

Safe Score: Approx 125 Marks

Percentage: 34%

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

OBC Rank: Approx 6000

Safe Score: Approx 115 Marks

EWS (Economically Weaker Section)

SC (Scheduled Caste)

SC Rank: Approx 3100

ST (Scheduled Tribe)

ST Rank: Approx 1500

Safe Score: Approx 60 marks

Percentage: 17%

Safe Score Table (Based on 360 marks paper)

SC

6000 CR 70 20%

ST

6000 CR 60 17%

Important Points and Conclusions:

1. All these figures are based on actual data of 2024 and are meant to be approximate only.

2. The Difficulty Level and Marking Scheme of the paper changes every year. Hence there can be variation in cutoff.

3. Also keep in mind that every IIT and every branch has different requirements — branches like CS and EE have higher cutoffs.

4. If the paper is based on a different total marks than 360, then the score needs to be scaled as per percentage.

5. Students who are able to score around these safe scores have a good chance of getting some branch in IIT.
