This Trend Seen Every Year in IIT Admissions
Every year more than 15 lakh students in the country dream of going to IITs and NITs by preparing for major engineering exams JEE Main and Advanced, while on the other hand, the data released by IIT Madras has revealed that despite getting top ranks in JEE-Advanced, many students do not take admission in IIT.
Career counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute said that out of 2 lakh 50 thousand 584 students selected on the basis of JEE-Main, 1 lakh 80 thousand 200 students appeared for JEE-Advanced exam last year.
Out of these, 48 thousand 248 students were declared eligible for counseling, out of which 17 thousand 695 students were given admission in IIT. These include 14,200 male and 3,495 female students.
The data released by IIT Madras has revealed that this year, like previous years, there are some toppers who did not take admission in IIT despite getting good ranks. Among them, 1 in top-50 All India Rank, 3 in top-100, 4 in top-200, 13 in top-500 and 29 in top-1000 are students who did not take admission in IIT.
Whereas they were easily getting top branches like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science in top IITs.
Experts maintain that the major reason for students not taking admission in IIT, even after getting top ranks, can be credited to the availability of the best research institutes as per their interest and the option of MS in the world’s top universities.
The country’s best institute IISC, in which admission is given through JEE-Advanced, every year many topper students take admission in this institute according to their interest in Physics, Chemistry, Research in Maths and the newly started Mathematics and Computing branch.
In the past several years also, many students from the initial top-500 rank have taken admission in the IISC institute. In this institute, along with CS, students also get a chance to study complete research in Mathematics and Computing branch, that is why admission in this branch closes within the top 1000 rank of JEE Advanced.
Apart from this, many of these topper students also take admission in world-renowned institutes like MIT for doing global studies.
