Engineering Craze 27 Percent More Applications in JEE-Main 2024 Session 1 Than Last Year
After the completion of the JEE-Main January examination, which was held in 11 shifts in 6 days, now the application process for JEE Main Session 2 has started. This exam will be held between 4th to 15th April. The last date of application is till 2 March.

Three types of students will be able to participate in the April application process. Firstly, those students who have already applied for both January and April sessions. Secondly, those students who earlier applied only for the January session and now want to apply for April session also. Thirdly, students who have not yet applied for January session and want to apply for April session.

Once again a trend change is being seen in engineering education in the country. In the last few years, the number of students appearing in engineering entrance examinations was stable. This year, the JEE (Main) – 2024 Session 1 was conducted in 11 shifts which is 02 shifts less than the previous year keeping in view that the number of registered candidates is 1231874 which is about 27% higher than the previous year. From the following table, it is evident that the number of candidates in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 is increasing
According to the data released by the National Testing Agency, the JEE-Main exam organizing body, this year 12 lakh 31 thousand 874 students registered for the first session of JEE-Main, in which 12 lakh 21 thousand 615 students were registered for B.E./B.Tech and 74 thousand students were registered for B.Arch. Out of 12 lakh 21 thousand 615 students registered for BE-B.Tech, 11 lakh 70 thousand 36 students appeared in the examination.
The attendance across the Country was 95.8% for Paper 1 (B.E. / B.Tech.). This is one of the highest percentages of attendance for JEE (Main) since NTA has started the conduct of JEE (Main) examination If we look at the number of students who have registered for BE-B.Tech in the previous years in the first session of JEE-Main, it was 8 lakh 72 thousand 432 in the year 2022, 8 lakh 60 thousand 64 in 2023, and 12 lakh 21 thousand 615 in 2024. In such a situation, compared to last year, the number of registered students this year increased by 27 percent i.e. more than one fourth.
This year, out of total 12 lakh 31 thousand 874 students registered for B.Arch and BE-B.Tech, 8 lakh 24 thousand 945 were boys and 4 lakh 6 thousand 920 were girls. In this, the total registered students included 4 lakh 16 thousand 86 of general category, 1 lakh 54 thousand 840 of EWS, 4 lakh 98 thousand 169 of OBC, 1 lakh 21 thousand 394 of SC, 41 thousand 375 of ST.
In the past, more than 12 lakh 31 thousand students have applied for JEE-Main January examination. Students who have applied for both the sessions and those who have previously applied only for the January session can apply using their January application no. and their created password. Students who have applied for both the sessions can make corrections in the medium of examination, course, state of eligibility, examination centre, details of 10th and 12th.
Also, students applying only for January session can pay the required examination fee for April session by filling the details of course, medium of examination, state of eligibility, examination centre, 10th, 12th. Apart from this, students applying for the first time will have to go through the entire application process. Students are advised to check the examination fee payment deposited after applying before the last date.
Students who have applied for January sessiom have this last opportunity to make corrections in their applications. A large number of unique students who have applied for the April examination will participate in this process.
