JEE Main 2025: Number of OBC Students in JEE is More Than Open Category

NTA has Released the JEE Main 2025 Session 1 Data with the Result

The data of the country’s largest engineering entrance exam JEE Main January exam released by NTA has revealed that this year the number of OBC students, who appeared in the exam, was more than the open category.

The number of students from OBC and EWS category alone was about 50 percent of the total students appearing in the exam. The last date for application for the JEE Main 2025 April exam is 25 February and so far 88 thousand new unique candidates have applied for it.

Students are Upset Due to Lack of Category Change Option

Career counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute said that the category students applying for JEE Main April exam are facing a lot of trouble as during the application for the April exam, they are not able to make any changes in the errors in their category, exam city, state of eligibility, class 10 and 12 details.

According to the data, a total of 12 lakh 58 thousand 136 students appeared for the JEE Main January Session exam this year, out of which 4 lakh 90 thousand 175 were from OBC category, 1 lakh 38 thousand 699 were from EWS, while 4 lakh 66 thousand 358 students were from the open category appeared for the exam.

In such a situation, the number of students from OBC category was more than that of the open category. Despite 50 percent of OBC and EWS students appearing in the exam, NTA did not give the students the option to change their category. During the January application, students who did not have OBC and EWS certificates were forced to apply from the open category.

Along with this, a large number of students are coming forward who had previously applied from OBC and EWS, but now want to apply from the open category as they do not have the certificate of OBC and EWS category of after 1 April 2025. Students in both the above situations are confused due to not getting the option of category correction in the application.

Students Applying with New Application Number

In case of not being able to make correction in the application, the students are applying for JEE-Main April exam by registering afresh with a new application number. Last year also, some such students had come forward, who applied with different application numbers for January and April and their result was not released by NTA.

In such a situation, students are advised that the students who have taken the exam in January should apply with their old application number only and wait for the correction window option opening after applying for the April exam.
