JEE Main 2025: NTA Changes the Tie-breaker Rule for Equal NTA Score

AIR-1 will Come on Perfect Score of 300 Out of 300

Application for the country’s biggest engineering entrance exam JEE Main January session 2025 has started. The last date for application is 22 November. More than 20 thousand students have applied on the very first day.

What is Changed Tie-Breaker Rule?

Career counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute said that this year a big change has been made to award rank in JEE Main on equal NTA score.

If two students have equal NTA score, then in case of a tie, their subject wise NTA score will be seen to give All India Rank. In this, first of all the NTA score of Maths will be seen, if there is a tie in this, then the NTA score of Physics and if there is a tie even after this, then the NTA score of Chemistry will be seen.

In case of a tie in these too, the least negative score of Maths, then the least negative score of Physics, then the least negative score of Chemistry will be taken and if there is a tie in all the above parameters, then those students will be given the same All India Rank and Category Rank.

That is, if there are many students who score 300 out of 300, then all of them will be given AIR-1, which has already happened in the year 2021.

Till last year, in case of a tie in the above parameters, the one who was older in age was given priority in AIR. In case of a tie in age also, the application number of JEE-Main was taken. In such a situation, this year there will be many such students whose AIR and category rank may be the same.

OBC & EWS students facing issues in JEE Main 2025 Application

OBC and EWS students will have to face a lot of trouble during JEE-Main application. For the first time, during the application of JEE-Main, along with the certificate ID and issue date, the name of the officer issuing the certificate has also been sought.

Without giving this information, it will not be possible to apply. In such a situation, the challenge has come in front of the OBC and EWS students that they will have to get their certificate made before applying.

Otherwise, application without certificate will not be possible, whereas in the past years, students had to fill only their category. NTA should give such students relaxation in application as before so that they can apply by the due date, because the formalities of issuing the certificate may take time.

It is worth noting that this year the first session of JEE-Main will be from 22 to 31 January and the second session will be from 1 to 8 April. The last date of application is 22 November. The application process for session-2 will be from 31 January to 24 February.
