JEE Main 2025 to be Held on New Pattern

Discontinuation of Optional Questions for Selection in Section B of JEE (Main) – 2025 Exam

NTA has issued a notification announcing changes in the JEE Main 2025 Examination pattern. As per the notification of NTA, 5 questions per subject will be asked in the section B of the JEE Main examination paper.

JEE Main 2025 During the onset of the COVID 19 pandemics, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had implemented an option in Section B of each subject in the JEE (Main) Examination allowing candidates to attempt any 5 (five) questions out of a total of 10 questions since JEE (Main) 2021.

This modification was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenges posed during the pandemic and has been in practice till the year 2024 for JEE (Main) examination.

Since the declaration of UN World Health Organization (WHO) on the COVID – 19 as an end of Public health emergency on 05 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions.

The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning).

With reference to the modification mentioned above, the detailed Pattern of Examination will be available in Information Bulletin of JEE (Main) – 2025.

For further clarification related to JEE (Main) – 2025, the Candidates are advised to keep visiting the official websites of NTA, www.nta.ac.in and https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/ for the latest updates.

The Cutoff will be Low in New Pattern of JEE Main

The cutoff will be low in the new examination pattern. According to the new pattern, there will be a total of 75 questions in the JEE Main 2025 question paper.

According to its marking pattern, four marks will be given for the correct question and one mark will be deducted for the wrong one. According to this, the question paper will have a total of 300 marks.

Due to no options in the question paper of JEE Main entrance exam, it will be more difficult for the candidate to score than before. Dev Sharma said that the qualifying cutoff of JEE Advanced will decrease under JEE Main.

NTA will continue to Conduct JEE Main Exam

National Testing Agency (NTA) will continue to conduct JEE Main next year as well. For the conduct of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2025, the registration process for the online application form will be starting in due course of time.
