JEE Main 2026: NTA Issues Important Advisory for Students Before Registration

JEE Main 2026 Registration: Update Aadhaar Card, Category Certificate and Other Documents as Per NTA Guidelines Now

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important advisory for lakhs of candidates planning to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026.

Students preparing for the exam have been advised to ensure their required documents are correct and updated before the registration process begins in October 2025. Any errors in the documents may result in the application being rejected or serious difficulties in the admission process.

JEE Main 2026: Exam Outline

According to the information released by the NTA, JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in two sessions.

First session in January 2026

Second session in April 2026

Online application forms for the first session will be available on the NTA’s official website [jeemain.nta.nic.in] (https://jeemain.nta.nic.in) in October 2025.

This exam is crucial for students seeking admission to prestigious engineering institutes such as NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutes. It also serves as a basis for appearing in the JEE Advanced exam for admission to IITs.

Why is it Important to Update Documents Before Registration?

It is often observed that during the application process, discrepancies in students’ documents, such as name, date of birth, address, or category certificate, are found. In such cases, applications are rejected or complications arise later in the admission process.

NTA has clarified that students should check their documents now and update them promptly if any corrections are required. This will avoid unnecessary stress and hassles when registration begins.

JEE Main 2026: Which Documents must be Verified and Updated?

  1. Aadhaar Card

    • Name and date of birth must match the 10th grade certificate.
    • Candidate’s latest photograph must be included.
    • Address and father’s name must also be correct.
    • Any errors in the Aadhaar card may lead to application rejection in the future.
  1. UDID Card (for candidates with disabilities)

    • Candidates with disabilities must have a valid and timely renewed Unique Disability ID Card (UDID).
    • If the card’s validity has expired, it must be renewed immediately.
  1. Category Certificate

    • Students applying under the EWS, SC, ST, or OBC-NCL categories must have a valid and updated category certificate.
    • Applications may be rejected if the certificate is outdated or in the wrong format.
    • The NTA has warned that failing to verify these documents could lead to serious obstacles during registration and the subsequent admission process.

Points to Keep in Mind During JEE Main 2026 Registration

  • Candidates should have soft copies of all documents ready before registration.
  • When filling out the application form, the name, father’s name, and date of birth must match the 10th-grade marksheet.
  • Scan and upload a passport-size photo and signature in the correct format.
  • Ensure the application fee is submitted online on time.

Regularly Visit the Official Website

The NTA has also advised students to regularly visit the [nta.ac.in] (https://nta.ac.in) and [jeemain.nta.nic.in] (https://jeemain.nta.nic.in) websites. Registration dates, admit card release dates, exam patterns, and other important information will be made available on these portals.

Why is JEE Main important?

  • JEE Main is not only a gateway to prestigious engineering colleges in the country, but it is also the first step towards building a career for students.
  • Admission to NITs and IIITs: Students gain admission to prestigious colleges like the National Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Information Technology based on JEE Main scores.
  • Admission to CFTIs: Admission to other centrally funded technical institutes is also based on this exam score.

Eligibility for IITs: Passing the JEE Main is mandatory to appear for the JEE Advanced.

Expert Advice for Students

Education experts believe that students preparing for the JEE Main should focus on two aspects:

  1. Academic Preparation: A timely study plan, consistent revision, and practicing mock tests are key to success.
  2. Administrative Preparation: Updating documents, correct application forms, and timely registration are just as important as academics.

For students planning to appear for JEE Main 2026, this is the time to correct and update their documents. Important documents such as Aadhaar cards, category certificates, and UDID cards for disabled candidates should be checked and corrected in a timely manner. Additionally, candidates should keep an eye on every notice issued on the official website.

If students prepare thoroughly before the registration process begins, they will not face any difficulties later.
