JEE Main 2026: NTA will only retain student records for 90 days

Securing Necessary Documents in time is Mandatory

Important information has emerged for lakhs of students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main). The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that student records related to the JEE Main exam will only be retained for 90 days after the results are declared. After this period, neither the application-related documents nor the score details will be available in the NTA system.

JEE Main Exam Dates and Record Information

The JEE Main exam, conducted by the NTA, is scheduled to be held between January 21 and 30. After the exam results are released, candidates’ data, such as application details, scorecards, and other records, will be retained by the NTA for approximately three months, i.e., 90 days.

According to the NTA, after July 31, 2026, no student records will be available on the official portal.

Documents that need to be secured

Students are advised to keep both hard copies and soft copies of the following documents safe:

  • Online application confirmation page
  • Admit Card
  • JEE Main Scorecard / Result

These documents are extremely important for future counseling, admission processes, document verification, and other academic purposes. Once removed from the NTA records, it will not be possible to retrieve them again.

Question Paper and Answer Key Arrangement

Every year, after the results are declared, the NTA makes the following information available on its official website for a limited time:

  • Question Paper
  • Recorded Responses
  • Provisional and Final Answer Key

Sometimes, students are not satisfied with their results and use these records to check the answer key or file objections. In such cases, it is crucial to download and secure these documents in time.

Mandatory Documents at the Examination Centre

Students are required to have certain mandatory documents for entry into the JEE Main examination centre. You will not be allowed to appear for the exam without the following:

  • Printed Admit Card downloaded from the NTA website
  • Self-declaration form, printed on A4 size paper
  • Passport size photograph matching the one uploaded in the online application, to be pasted on the attendance sheet
  • A valid photo identity proof (such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, etc.) that has not expired

Important Advice for Students

Even a small oversight in a national-level examination like JEE Main can affect future plans. Therefore, students should:

  • Make multiple copies of all important documents and keep them safe
  • Save digital files to email or cloud storage

Download all information related to the exam and results in a timely manner

The NTA’s decision to retain JEE Main students’ records for only 90 days is an important warning for students. Keeping necessary documents safe and readily available at the right time makes the further admission process easier. Students currently preparing for the exam should pay equal attention to document management as they do to their studies.
