Media Reports have Clarified NTA Stands on the Issue
For the past few days, confusion and concern regarding JEE-Main 2026 registration has prevailed among millions of engineering aspirants across the country.
The biggest question among students and parents was whether they would now be allowed to choose an exam centre based solely on the address listed on their Aadhaar card.
News on this issue was rapidly circulating on various digital and print media platforms. Now, the NTA (National Testing Agency) has finally clarified the situation regarding this entire controversy.
Questions Raised Regarding Aadhaar Card Address Linking
A few days ago, in a notification issued by the NTA on September 29th, candidates were advised to update their Aadhaar cards before filling out the JEE-Main application form.
Following this advice, several media reports claimed that candidates would now be allowed to choose an exam centre only in the city or state corresponding to the address listed on their Aadhaar card.
These reports created widespread confusion among students. Many candidates began the process of updating their Aadhaar cards, fearing they might miss out on their desired exam centre due to their Aadhaar card address.
NTA Clarifies the Situation
According to information received from NTA sources, several media platforms informed that this claim is completely false and misleading, said Career Counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute, Amit Ahuja.
The agency clarified that the notification issued was a “general advice” that only advised candidates to correct their Aadhaar card details to avoid any “ID proof mismatch” issues during the exam.
As per the agency sources, sometimes discrepancies were found in candidates’ name, date of birth, or photo on their Aadhaar cards at exam centres, leading to entry difficulties, said Ahuja.
To prevent this problem, the NTA advised students to update their documents, not imposed any restrictions on choosing an exam centre.
Old Rules will Remain in Effect
According to NTA sources, the process for selecting an exam centre for JEE-Main 2026 will remain the same as in previous years. Candidates will be able to select an exam city based on their current or permanent address.
This means that there will be no linking or syncing between the address on their Aadhaar card and the exam city. If a student’s Aadhaar card is from a different city and they wish to appear for the exam in another city, they will be fully permitted to do so.
NTA’s move Brings Relief
This clarification has brought significant relief to students and parents.
Amidst the ongoing discussions on social media and various media platforms for the past several days, this is the first time that an official statement has been made that there will be no mandatory link between the Aadhaar card address and the exam centre.
Students have now been advised not to rush to update their Aadhaar cards. Begin the application process only when the NTA releases an official notification and carefully read all the information.
Official Notification to Come in the Future
The NTA will release the Official Registration Guidelines and Exam Dates for JEE-Main 2026 in the near future.
The agency’s website will clarify the requirements for the application process, exam centre selection, and document verification.
Experts say that until official information is released by the NTA, no viral posts or videos should be trusted. Students should only consider the information published on the NTA website as authentic.
Attempt to Restore Trust Among Students
This clarification from the NTA has significantly reduced the confusion among students. Discussions on digital and print media over the past few days had confused many candidates.
Now, the agency has clarified that there is no change in the exam centre selection process.
The NTA has also indicated that it will use clear wording in any future notifications to avoid such confusion or rumors.
What should Students Do?
The most important thing for students now is to remain patient and carefully read every information released on the NTA’s official website (nta.ac.in).
Have the required documents, such as passport-size photographs, signatures, and educational certificates, ready before the application process begins.
Make only the necessary corrections to your Aadhaar card, such as name, date of birth, or photo, but there’s no need to panic about the address.
Do not share your personal information on any unofficial links or suspicious websites.
The clarification from the NTA has clarified the Aadhaar card address controversy that has been circulating for the past few days regarding JEE-Main 2026 registration. Candidates can now focus on their exam preparation with peace of mind.
The agency has clearly stated that the freedom to choose an exam centre will remain the same, and that Aadhaar card address will not affect the selection of the exam city in any way.
This move by the NTA has brought relief to millions of students across the country and also sends a message that rumors should not be believed before official information is released.
