JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam: Know Important Do’s & Don’ts for the Exam

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Examinations will be held between 21st January and 29th January 2026

JEE Main 2026 Session 1, the country’s most prestigious engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is set to begin from 21st January. This exam determines the future of millions of students every year, so it is crucial to understand and follow all guidelines before the exam.

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam Schedule

  • The JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam will be held between January 21 and January 29, 2026. This exam will be conducted in a completely computer-based (CBT mode) mode over a total of 11 shifts.
  • The B.E./B.Tech. exam will be conducted between January 21 and 28 in 10 shifts.
  • The B.Arch. exam will be held in one shift on January 29th.

Instructions regarding the admit card and reporting time

The admit card issued by the NTA clearly states that students who did not fill out the application form using their Aadhar card must arrive at the exam centre at least one hour before the reporting time. This is due to the biometric verification process at the exam centre, which will include fingerprint and photo verification.

Do’s for the JEE Main 2026 exam

According to career counseling experts, students should pay special attention to the following:

  • Entry will be closed half an hour before the exam starts, so it is mandatory to reach the centre on time.
  • Students will be assigned labs only through the barcode reader provided on the admit card.
  • The Self-Declaration Form provided with the admit card.
  • Bring left thumb impression.
  • A recent passport-size photograph must be brought pasted in advance.
  • This Self-Declaration Form must be signed in front of the examiner at the examination centre.

It is mandatory to bring the following items to the examination centre:

  • Original valid photo ID proof
  • Admit card with self-declaration filled in
  • Transparent pen
  • One extra photo
  • Transparent water bottle

During the examination, students will be given a rough sheet on which they must write their name and roll number. This rough sheet must be returned after the examination. Failure to do so will prevent the answer sheet from being checked.

Upon completion of the examination, the admit card and self-declaration form must be submitted to the designated place at the examination centre.

Physically challenged students will be given an additional one hour for the examination. They will also be provided with a scribe by the NTA.

Don’ts for the JEE Main 2026 Exam

  • Bringing mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, calculators, or any other electronic gadgets is strictly prohibited.
  • Wearing thick-soled shoes, clothing with large buttons, or any fashion accessories will not be permitted inside the examination centre.
  • Photocopies of identity cards or photos saved on mobile phones will not be accepted; only original IDs will be accepted.
  • Students found using unfair means or cheating during the examination may be barred from the examination for three years. A criminal case may also be filed, and the investigation may be escalated to investigating agencies.
  • If a student goes out for a bio-break during the examination, they will be subject to security checks, including metal detector checks.

What to do if you don’t have Aadhaar?

Students who did not use their Aadhaar number when applying for the JEE-Main must bring the completed Undertaking issued with their admit card.

  • This undertaking is mandatory to present at the examination centre.
  • It must be signed by the NTA’s special examiner and submitted there.
  • Students without this undertaking will not be allowed to appear for the examination.

The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam is not only a test of knowledge, but also of discipline and adherence to rules. Only by preparing on time, providing the correct documentation, and following all guidelines issued by the NTA can students appear for the exam without stress.
