The paper was difficult and lengthy, testing mental strength and time management
The first session of JEE Main-January 2026, the country’s largest engineering entrance examination for admission to BE-BTech courses, is underway. The exam on the third day was held on Friday, 23rd January.
The paper in the morning shift of third day was overall difficult and lengthy. The calculations were also difficult, and since the answer could only be arrived at after calculating all the options in a single question, more time was spent solving the paper. Overall, this paper tested the students’ mental strength and time management skills.
Chemistry
The Chemistry paper in the morning shift was difficult. Questions related to statement selection were asked in Inorganic Chemistry, calculations in Physical Chemistry, and concepts in Organic Chemistry.
In Physical Chemistry, students took more time because the answer could only be obtained after calculating all the options in a single question. Two questions each were asked from Coordination Chemistry, Aromatic Compounds, and Chemical Equilibrium. 40 percent of the questions in the paper were from the 11th-grade syllabus and 60 percent from the 12th-grade syllabus.
Physics
The Physics paper in the morning shift was of moderate difficulty. 40 percent of the questions in the paper were from the 11th-grade syllabus and 60 percent from the 12th-grade syllabus.
This paper also involved extensive calculations. The number of questions asked from Mechanics, Magnetism, and Electrodynamics topics was higher.
Mathematics
The Mathematics paper in the morning shift was of moderate difficulty. The calculations in this paper were less compared to the papers of the previous two days. The number of questions from Algebra and Calculus was higher.
The paper included 44 percent of the questions from the 11th-grade syllabus and 56 percent from the 12th-grade syllabus.
