There Were More Concept Based Questions in Shift I Exam
The first session of the country’s biggest engineering entrance exam for admission to BE-BTech courses, JEE Main-January 2026, is underway. The fourth day’s exam was held on Saturday. The paper in the morning shift on the fourth day was overall moderate and lengthy.
Most of the questions in the three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Maths – were based on deep understanding of concepts, hence students who have prepared well will benefit. The Physics paper was moderate and calculative.

The level of the Chemistry paper in the morning shift was moderate. Inorganic Chemistry included statement-type questions from NCERT, Organic Chemistry included conceptual questions, and Physical Chemistry included lengthy, difficult calculation questions.
Physical and Organic Chemistry questions carried a higher weightage. 34% of the questions were from the 11th-grade syllabus, and 56% from the 12th-grade syllabus.

The Physics paper in the morning session was moderate and calculation-based. Some questions were similar in level to those in the JEE Advanced exam.
The paper included approximately five questions each from Electrodynamics and Mechanics, and three questions each from Geometry, Optics, Heat, and Thermodynamics.

The math paper in the morning session was moderate and lengthy. Nine questions were asked from algebra, eight from calculus, four from coordinate geometry, and two each from vector 3D and trigonometry.
