Demand for Extension: OBC & EWS Students Seek Fairness in Category Corrections
The country’s largest Engineering Entrance Exam, JEE-Main 2024, gave students until March 7 to rectify errors in their JEE Main 2024 applications. However, students faced numerous difficulties during the correction process.

Students complained that the correction option was opened much later than the specified time, leaving them with insufficient time. Initially, the option to change categories was not provided, and when it was finally available, it was opened a day later. Despite this, the website malfunctioned during the correction period, further hindering students’ ability to make corrections.
Students, especially those belonging to the OBC and EWS categories, who are required to provide category-related certificates dated after April 1, 2024, are demanding an extension of the correction deadline from the NTA.
They argue that without the ability to change their categories, they will be considered ineligible for JEE-Advanced based on their filled category, affecting their admissions to prestigious institutes like IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
This correction opportunity was crucial for students, as based on their AIR and category rank, they would be eligible for admissions to IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
As per the previously announced dates, the declaration of JEE Main 2024 exam cities will be made in the third week of March. Additionally, admit cards for the exam can be downloaded three days before the exam date.
The delay in providing the correction option in JEE-Main applications has caused significant distress among students. The demand for an extension of the correction deadline, especially for students requiring category-related certificates post-April 1, 2024, is justified to ensure fair opportunities for all candidates.
