Now the last date to respond to the query received during online reporting is 5 July till 5 pm. If the students do not respond, they will be out of the further counseling process.
Students did Not Give Preference Due to No Branch Change
Allen Career Institute’s Education Expert said that according to the data released for the three rounds so far, this year students have not given preference to their lower branches in Mumbai, Madras, Kharagpur, Hyderabad, which are among the top IITs, due to no branch change option.
Due to this reason, the cut-off of lower branches of these top IITs has increased, and students with lower ranks have also got branches in these IITs whereas till last years all the branches of these IITs used to close at higher ranks.
If we look at the figures, the closing AIR of BS Chemistry branch of IIT Bombay was 7081, Biological Science of IIT Madras was 9555, closing AIR of Applied Geology branch of IIT Kharagpur was 12758, closing AIR of Industrial Chemistry branch of IIT Hyderabad was 9320. All these closing ranks are from gender neutral pool in open category.
This is the Important Reason
The main reason for the increase in the cut-off rank of lower branches of these top IITs is the closure of the option of branch change in these IITs. Earlier, students had the option of changing the branch on the basis of their first year performance, due to which many students were upgraded to core branch and good branch in the second year.
Due to this, students used to prefer lower branches of top IITs over the core branches of IITs opened in 2012 and 2017. In such a situation, the cut-off of lower branches of top IITs used to be low, but now since this branch change option has been closed; the cut-off of lower branches of many top IITs Mumbai, Madras, Kharagpur, Hyderabad has changed.
Due to which now students with lower ranks are getting admission in these branches. Students are now seen giving preference to other IITs instead of these IITs where there is also an option of branch change.
